The Makai (Hawaiian for Ocean side) Cabin is 1 of 3 cabins, each of which has an ocean view window. This one-room cabin is 240 sq ft with a table and 2 chairs on a 120 sq ft lanai. Inside is a queen bed, comfy couch, armoire and desk. In the separate Cabin Hale is your shared bathroom, shared full kitchen (with pots, pans, dinnerware, glasses, utensils, etc.), and shared spacious lanai with sofa, coffee table, dining table with seating for four, and wired hi-speed ethernet connectivity. Upper Cabin's Kitchen Respect the Refrigerator Contents: If it isn't yours, do not consume it Clean up after yourself; NEVER leave dirty dishes on the stove or in the sink Wipe down all surfaces after each use All food should be confined to this cabin's kitchen and lanai - do not eat in the bedrooms Respect the Cabinet Contents: If it isn't yours, don't consume it Fire extinguishers are located in the cabinet Showers The bathroom between the kitchen and lanai has a traditional shower, but if you'd like something more adventurous, try the outdoor showers behind the cabin. Laundry Laundry machines may be available for $5.00US per load. Scheduling use of a washer must be done through Our on-site representative. We encourage solar drying. Uber/Taxi If Google Maps is used, drivers are directed to the makai (water side) entrance of the property, which is in a gated subdivision. Better to tell a driver to turn left at the actual old sugar mill building and follow Old Railroad Way until it ends. Rental Car Safety Be mindful of where you park a vehicle - anywhere you go. Remove anything valuable and leave nothing in view. Trunks are not always safer. LOCK the doors, no matter how briefly you'll be away from the vehicle. If the unfortunate occurs, try reaching out to VASH. Bathroom and Snacks While traveling around Big Island, there aren't many places to stop for snacks or a bathroom. Plan ahead, and be mindful that Covid restrictions have closed many public restrooms. On your way to Volcano? Try a truly local Glenwood stop at Hirano Store. Checking out the lava at Pohoiki? Shop or dine at PunaKai Shopping Center in Pahoa. On your way to Waimea? Grab a malasada at Tex's Drive-In. Saddle Road or Daniel K Inouye Highway has a decent bathroom at Mauna Kea State Park but bring a jacket - windy and cold at 3,000 feet! Cellular Service Cell towers do not reach many areas on the Big Island. Verizon and AT&T networks fare well near towns. Be sure to download and save directions or contact information you may need before leaving on a day trip. We provide a variety of household items for you to use during your stay.
