Lovely, bright room (2 windows, facing N and E) on 2nd floor! House on quiet dead end street, yet shops/restaurants close. Great day trip destinations (a county park - same designer as NYC's Central Park - around the corner!) and a (limited) bus to 42nd Street NYC is 1 block away (30 min to NYC). Metlife Stadium only 6 miles away. Open backyard with hammock and garden vegetables (in summer); many shared spaces throughout home. Newly renovated kitchen, bath, and sun porch (facing backyard). Nice quiet bedroom with two windows, desk, 2 chairs, and closet with extra blankets and pillows. Six empty drawers in bureau. Standing lamp. Desk Lamp. Overhead light. Air conditioner and/or fan in the summertime. Lots of cozy bedding on a comfortable Queen sized bed. Beautiful hardwood floors throughout the house (with rugs everywhere!) Whole house and yard! Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, sunporch, basement. Laundry and extra commode in basement. Attic and other bedrooms off limits. I get up early and am out of the house early on most week days. I am happy to share any tips about the neighborhood and offer suggestions or help you in any way with your stay. I can help you navigate your way through the buses and trains into NYC. I love having people over, and I like meeting new people. I have hosted people (Bicycle people) on a site called Warmshowers. Many international guests. I am fluent in German, Greek, French, some Spanish and ASL. Sports equipment is also available for use! Bikes (2-3), tennis rackets (3-4), golf clubs (2 bags), ice hockey, frisbee, etc. Our house is on a dead end street, with many restaurants close by on Broad Street, one block away (Thai, Greek, Chinese, Caribbean, Rita's Custard, a pie and cake shop, IHOP, great great Bagel shop, homemade ice cream and chocolate shop - (the last episode of the 'Sopranos' was shot here at Holsten's)! There is a convenience store across from the NYC bus stop (DeCamp #33 and sometimes #88) where one can buy bus tickets (not necessary on the way IN to NYC). A huge park (Brookdale Park) designed by Olmstead (also designer of Central Park in NYC) one block away - with a running track, walking paths, biking, many fields, art shows and concerts throughout the summer and fall. Use our bikes if the weather permits! Our golf clubs! Our hockey equipment! Many Hospitals are nearby in Montclair/ Paterson/Livingston/Newark, etc. as well as Colleges and Universities (Bloomfield, Montclair State, Kean, etc). The area is very walkable! NJ Transit bus to NYC one block away at Broad Street and Watchung Avenue (the stop is "Johnson Avenue"). If there is no traffic it can be a 25 minute ride, but usually it is more like 30 - 40 minutes in or out of the city. This bus has its limitations - only a few in the am to NYC and then only a few back in the pm. The last bus out of the city might be as early as 8 pm. (This happened due to COVID. There was a family-run bus service called DeCAmp- for over 60 years with great frequent bus service to and from the city. WIth lower ridership - more people working from home - they sadly went out of business.) You could walk to a train station on weekdays; (Montclair-Boonton line- Watchung Station), but it would take you about 25 minutes to walk there, about one mile up Watchung Avenue. Or 10 minutes by bike! I have bikes! If you have a car, parking on street outside house temporarily OK, but please park overnight in the parking lot right next to house. About 4 steps more than parking in front of house. Phillips Street is a tight area as it is a dead end where we live. The parking lot is at the end of the street near our house. The Garbage truck and recycling trucks might have trouble getting in and out of our street with cars parked on it. To get into the lot, go back out Phillips, right on Johnson and right onto Broad. The parking lot driveway around the block between the the jewelry store and Stamna Greek Restaurant. Our Street, Phillips Street, continues on the other side of the parking lot. As stated above, if you don't have a car, we have a few bikes. Beautiful parks are nearby, with Brookdale Park being one of the biggest in the county, and only one block away. Please ask me questions or tell me what you may need during your stay. I would like you to be as comfortable as possible. I am very flexible with check in times; just let me know. Filtered water is in room, but if you want ice, just get it from fridge downstairs. A Keurig coffee maker, among other appliances, is also at your service in the kitchen!
