I rent two second-floor bedrooms in my home. There is one guest bathroom on that floor. This is a very roomy space, with a queen bed that has a comfortably firm foam mattress, and a wicker couch providing a nice place to relax, study, work. Replacing a closet (which became the bathroom) is a clothes stand, over-the-door hooks, a dresser, and a hall closet. Shared rooms in the owner’s home are kitchen, living room, deck and laundry room. Emma the Dog is a cute charmer and doorbell substitute. My Pittsfield home is centrally located, easy to find, well-appointed, and in a quiet, safe neighborhood. My guests comment on what a nice, well-decorated, and comfortable resting place it is. I love my home, I love my Berkshires, and I enjoy hosting visitors to both. Beautiful Lake Onota, with a beach and a paved pathway, is within walking distance. Guests are welcome to share my living room and tv, large kitchen, laundry room, deck, and gardens. Entry to the home is by a front or back door. Keys are provided. Parking on the property is free and shared flexibly day to day with consideration for others in the house. During plow season, there will necessarily be congenial working out of making space for the plow to swipe through the driveway unhindered. This is usually in the early mornings. My retirement years have been filled with being a well-reviewed and responsive Airbnb Superhost. Previous careers include teacher, banker, marketing director, community college administrator, and tour group leader. I am familiar with the sights that draw people to the famous Berkshires —- restaurants, bike paths, trails, museums, entertainment venues —-so will happily serve as your "concierge" and Berkshire guide. So that you will feel at home, you will be given food storage space in the kitchen, a small coffeemaker in your room, as well as one in the kitchen. We do our mutual best to work out timing of kitchen use, to minimize getting in each other’s way. This is a non-smoking, fragrance -free space; burning candles or incense is not permitted. We will discuss who-cleans-what upon arrival. Feel free to call or text for details. I know all my neighbors, and trust that they will be both friendly and helpful. There are two families with teenage boys, a retired grocer, a physical therapist, a former hospital IT worker, a teacher. My yard is large enough to play frisbee or toss a ball. The local bus service, Berkshire Regional Transit Authority (BRTA) has pick-ups on corner of Woodbine and Onota as well as corner of Acorn and Lakeway. It has limited service at night and on weekends. If you are coming without a car, I strongly recommend you consider renting one in order to attend cultural venues at night and on weekends. I may also be able to serve as a private driver for you, or provide names of others. The Peter Pan bus terminal/ Amtrak train station is a little over a mile from the house. When available, I will be happy to pick you up there and return you there when your visit is done, at no cost. Pittsfield also has taxi service, (Arrow/Rainbow) and Uber. There is parking in the driveway for one guest car and safe on-street parking for more than that. There is a charging outlet by the driveway. I can give you space in my garage for your bicycles, etc. All bedrooms have ceiling fans and lots of windows for cross-breeze and comfortable sleeping. There will be air conditioners in the summer. I am a mixed-media collage artist, limited by weak old legs to working at a messy table in the great room. I try my best to keep things tidy there. My very cute and sweet dog Emma is a five year old wire-haired terrier. We rescued each other. She is “total dog,” usually serving as a substitute doorbell and guard of the house. She stays downstairs with me. Guests do love her, unless they’re just not dog people.
