Experience Maui's first working fiber farm, home to Alpacas, Llamas, and Angora rabbits. Sitting at 3300 ft above sea level, Cottontail Farm enjoys perfect weather days and crisp, cool nights. The cooler temperatures are perfect for our wool producing animals that graze just outside your cottage in the back yard. Our alpacas and llamas are quiet observers but also provide plenty of entertainment of their own. Our group of Angora rabbits can be seen out the window hopping around their enclosures. Enjoy our separate private cottage with your own outdoor living area and fire place with ocean, sunset, and summit views. My husband and I live on the property in a separate home and will be available if you would like to come over and meet the animals and experience the working farm. We move the animals around to different pastures so if you would like to join us in walking the alpacas and llamas down the road, you are welcome to! The animals get sheared periodically and their wool is hand spun, washed, and knitted with, all on property. Products are sold at the local Upcountry Farmers Market or some are available at a farm stand that is inside the cottage. We live on a prestigious, tucked away, dead end street that is pleasant to walk. Say hi to the rest of our herd of alpacas amd llamas right across the street or walk down to the Rice Memorial Park to view stunning, 5 island sunsets. We are just minutes from all Upcountry has to offer including the Kula Country Farms, Ali'i Kula Lavendar Farm, Kula Botanical Garden, Surfing Goat Dairy, Ulupalakua Winery, Grandma's Coffee House, and of course Haleakala Summit! A car is needed as there is not a lot of public transport readily available. The driveway is a bit steep so we recommend renting a smaller vehicle; a small to midsize SUV or a jeep. The driveway is a bit steep so a jeep or small SUV is recommended. Most smaller front wheel drive vehicles are ok, but please do not rent a full size truck, or a sports car.
