Victorian Charm MIT/Harvard/ Central Square, private deck
Description
Welcome to our 100-year-old house! Cozy, friendly and full of charm. Very convenient to MGH, MIT & Harvard. Our location is hard to beat: close to both subway and bus with many excellent restaurants in walking distance. Located in Central Square, we are also an easy walk to Kendall and Inman Squares. For runners and walkers, the Charles River paths are 0.5 mile away. This unit features hardwood floors and nine foot ceilings. The private back deck is very popular. The space First off, in these days of divisiveness, EVERYONE is welcome here. Period. If you have medical needs at MGH, our house can be a safe, quiet respite. This rental is effectively a studio apartment with a private, locked entrance on the middle floor in a 3-unit building. It consists of a private bedroom, private eat-in kitchen and full bathroom in Central Square. In nice weather, guests love to hangout on the private back porch surrounded by mature maple trees. It's great for morning coffee or that late afternoon glass of wine. The bedroom is extremely convertible. The beds can be set for two friends to have separate beds. For couples, we can set up as a king size bed. If you are three, the third person can take our very comfortable memory foam rollaway bed. This has proven highly satisfactory for guests ranging from college guys to grandmothers. Many guests comment on how quiet our neighborhood is at bedtime. (Please see the Guest Access section for more info.) We have options, and we're flexible. We provide one set of towels per person upon arrival. If you are staying more than a few days, we'll swap them every 3-4 days. If you need more, just ask. The space is approximately 650 sq ft (60 sq meters). Winter notes: we keep the central thermostat at comfortable levels. That said, we have supplementary heaters as you need. Please be considerate and turn them off when you're out of the flat. The bathroom has a baseboard heater with an old-fashioned rotary thermostat to adjust to taste. Summer notes: please turn off the a/c or raise it to 78 when you leave the unit. We are enthusiastic members of this Airbnb community. We have been guests in several Airbnb flats in the US, Canada and Europe. We are confident in the good value we are offering. Hopefully you will agree. NB: hotels around here are twice our price and more. All that said, we're casual Airbnb hosts, not hoteliers. We have no concierge. Our house is a 7-8 minute walk from the subway (Central Square), a 5 minute walk to the bus on Mass Ave, a 5-6 minute walk to the closer parts of MIT and a 15-20 minute walk to Harvard Square or to Boston in the other direction. For your convenience, we provide loaner "Charlie" cards to use for public transportation. (If you forget and take them home, there's a $10 replacement charge per card) If you're a runner, there's a good 9-12k path from our house and around the river. For local cycling, a BlueBikes rental station is a 5 minute walk from the house. There is a driveway for your car also; please let us know if you will be driving. In summer, we install a window unit a/c. The TV in that room will also function as a computer monitor if you need a larger screen. For international guests, we have spare electric adapters too. Since you'll have your own private kitchen, we'll not make your breakfast. However, we keep coffee and tea in stock for guests. Besides three grocery stores in walking distance, we can give you a lift to Trader Joe's, only 5 min away by car or a 15 min walk. The kitchen has a coffee maker, hot water pot, French press, blender, toaster oven and microwave. Basic cooking utensils and dishes are also provided. If you need more, just ask. If you wish to explore the bakeries and restaurants nearby, Yelp is very strong around here for giving recent reviews. We are in a 100-year-old Victorian house originally constructed as a multi-family dwelling, typical of 1916. While we have made some updates, some history remains, e.g., the claw-foot tub. This could be a consideration for anyone with mobility issues. There is a grab bar installed between the bathroom sink and the tub. Even though we're in an older building, don't worry...we have updated systems. In the winter, you can stay as warm as you like. In addition, we upgraded to a tankless hot water system. Please give hot water a few extra moments to come up from the basement. Once it starts, you could have hot water all day. The house isn't the Ritz; it's an older, historical building with good karma to spare. Note: this website has undergone some changes that make some items less clear. The default price is for 2 guests. A 3rd guest is $35/night. We are neurotherapists as well as working musicians, one opera singer and one pianist. Check out our website: soundbrain Guest access We invite you to treat our house as your own home. The flat is a very comfortable space with great morning light. If you require separate beds, please let us know in advance. Other things to note Note: if you will arrive on a very early flight, e.g., a "red-eye," please consider reserving the night before. We can take your bags, but we have no place for you to stay until the flat is prepped after the previous guest. With our popular location, chances are that the night before your arrival will be booked and not available until 3pm. We have several restaurant recommendations, plus a few warnings of places not to go. There are three grocery stores in walking distance: Whole Foods, H-Mart & Target Grocery. There are several convenience shops around as well. Registration Details STR-14804
