Tutu's Place is owned by Hawaii-born Lorna Larsen-Jeyte, the former co-owner of Kilauea Lodge. The 1,000 sq. ft (92m) cottage, located in the heart of Volcano Village, 1 mile from Volcanoes National Park on a private lane with no through traffic. We can welcome up to 5 guests in two bedrooms (one with a king bed, and one with a twin and double size bed). Enjoy a Jotul gas fireplace in your living room, a full kitchen, smart television for streaming and a large garden with outdoor dining table. This home is located in the heard of Volcano Village, a small artists’ community located just outside of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. At 3,750 feet altitude, the town of Volcano, and most of the National Park, enjoy a cooler climate than the sea-level communities. The private road, Hale Ohia Lane, is treed with a wide variety of old growth species and immediately takes one back in time to the days of Old Hawai'i. Decor inside the home is also true to the unique sense of place with stained glass windows, joyful fabrics and all the needed comforts for a memorable stay. This home is directly across the quiet street from "Ola'a House" owned by my husband and the two properties can be rented together for wonderful larger gatherings accommodating up to 10 guests. The cottage has its own private driveway with ample room for parking. We have four homes available for rent in Volcano Village (search by name): Pi'i Mauna House w/Hot Tub 1 mile to National Park Tutu's Place a Volcano Village Cottage Ola'a House in Volcano Village Hideaway Loft with Kitchen in Volcano Village STVR Registration number: STVR-19-358887 Nonconforming Use Certificate Number: NUC-19-1124 The entire home and garden will be yours to enjoy during your stay. Your host won’t be on the property but you'll have local contacts Lucretia and Mark for anything you need during your stay. Hale Ohi'a Lane is a private cul-de-sac located in the very heart of Volcano Village walking distance to 6 restaurants, 2 small grocery stores, a laundromat, post office, and gas station. Native flora and fauna, unique to this altitude in Hawai'i, surround visitors, enhancing your serenity and connection with nature. The smells, sights and sounds reflect life in a slower, simpler time. Up the road is Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, Volcano Golf Course, many galleries, hiking trails, and numerous other unique activities for all ages. Hike anything at Volcano National Park and talk to the best park rangers for their latest recommendations! Our family's favorite hike outside the national park is at Bird Park. Get a handmade drinking glass at 2400 Faherenheit. See the latest work from local artists (ceramics, jewelry, paintings, wood carvings) by local artists at the Volcano Art Center. Visit the Volcano quilt shop for a traditional Hawaiian pattern or Ira Ono's in Hilo for inspirational fabrics, both clothing and household items. In the evening, go outside and watch the night sky--there are so many stars and the reason the Big Island is home to some of the world's largest telescopes atop Mauna Kea. In Hilo don't miss Two Ladies Mochi, shortbread at Big Island Candy, dinner at Cafe Pesto or Hilo Bay Cafe, and walk the cute streets on the Bayfront. Farmers' Market is on Sunday at Cooper Center from 8am-1pm and a pop-up market with local produce can be found on Thursdays. Besides exploring the National Park, Day trips to Hilo or Punaluu Black Sand Beach (and look for Honu--sea turtles) are sure to please all ages. The entrance to Volcanoes National Park is less than one mile away. The nearest airport is Hilo Airport (ITO) just a 40 minute drive to The Hideaway and a 2 hour drive from Kona Airport (KOA). Keep in mind... Public transportation is available but limited on the Big Island. It is not practical if you plan to visit the park. It is advisable to rent a car at Hilo or Kona Airports. PLEASE download the driving directions to the home after booking your visit as GPS guidance can be limited or incorrect. We also have Ola'a House in Volcano Village available to rent.
