The cottage is 600 square feet and has a private wrap-around lanai (porch) enclosing 2 sides, and a comfortable newer queen size bed. You get a peek of gorgeous Kaneohe Bay from the lanai. The private back yard is all yours to enjoy. The way the unit backs onto a jungle preservation area (no access allowed) means you have only partial sight of one neighbor. It is so quiet back here that you will not hear any traffic noise or urban clamor. The space provides a Roku TV and large work desk, with strong, fast Wifi so that you can stream video and get your remote work done efficiently and comfortably. From the mahogany high-top dining table, enjoy the back yard/jungle view as you dine. The renovated kitchenette is equipped with a full-size fridge, coffee maker, rice cooker/steamer, toaster oven, hotplate, and microwave, and has lovely granite countertops. Please note that there is no full size stove/oven. The bathroom has a huge walk-in tiled shower with door to the outside, granite vanity top, large mirrored medicine cabinet. The laundry hallway, which offers high efficiency washer and dryer for your convenience, separates your studio cottage and the main front part of the house, a 4-bedroom extended stay unit with which the laundry is shared. There are no walls shared directly with the 4-bedroom unit, which may or may not be occupied during your stay. This rental is not suitable for children. Please note that being in Hawaii, and with the property backing up to nature, you will hear roosters - they crow at all hours, sometimes very early in the morning. They can be very loud, so we recommend a white noise app on your phone. Also part of island living is that we have a lot of bugs outside, and some may find their way inside. You'll likely see geckos inside - they are harmless and help out by eating bugs. We do monthly pest treatments to keep the interiors as protected as possible, but please be aware that bugs are part of living in the tropics. VERY IMPORTANT: Absolutely no pets and no smoking permitted. We are situated on a small, quiet residential street surrounded by elderly neighbors who have lived in their homes for many decades. It is essential that our guests are peaceful and respectful of the neighbors. Noise, raucous behavior, events, and any guests other than those approved for the reservation are strictly prohibited. We can accommodate Japanese speaking guests as we speak Japanese. 日本語でもどうぞ。 You have off-street parking for one car on the flat concrete driveway on the side of the house. (The garage and asphalt driveway are for the front house guests.) Please note that the path from your driveway parking space to the cottage entrance at the rear of the property is not fully paved. There are concrete stepping stones leading the your entrance (see pictures), so roller luggage can be lifted and carried, but cannot be rolled. Feel free to enjoy the boogie boards, beach chairs and any other equipment in the garage. Our vacation rental is also a very quiet one. It is imperative that we have our guests' cooperation in keeping it peaceful. If you are someone who wants to be loud, have more than a few drinks, party or let loose in any way, laugh and talk raucously (day or night, but especially at night), then this is not the rental place for you. You would be happier in and better suited to the Waikiki vibe. Our ability to host future guests, and the success of neighborhood vacation rentals in general, are dependent on the happiness and blessing of the neighbors. We appreciate your understanding. We are located an easy 20-25 minute drive from Honolulu International Airport. Please see the directions for a (website hidden) map link and detailed driving directions. From the stunningly beautiful turquoise beaches to the Jurassic Park-like Ko'olau mountain range with its sheer, incredibly steep cliffs covered in lush vegetation, this is the best that Hawaii has to offer. There are four, different, world-class beaches within a 15 minute drive. There are tons of hikes where you can see waterfalls, mountain ranges, breathtaking ocean views, gorgeous flora and fauna, and humpback whales (during the November-April season). You are also about 50 minutes from the funky North Shore with its huge waves in winter and great swimming and snorkeling in the summer. Honolulu (known to the locals as "town") is an easy 25-minute drive over the Ko'olau mountain range. It is definitely easier to explore the whole island by car, but we have had guests who use the city bus to get around. We are two blocks from the bus stop servicing the #56 bus route, which will take you into Kaneohe town, Kailua town, and into Waikiki/Honolulu. We also do not have central air conditioning. Being on the windward side of the island, we enjoy the natural ocean tradewinds that keep the house ventilated through the open jalousie (louvre) windows. That natural breeze, along with the floor fans, keeps the house comfortable almost all the time. There are some hot days over the summer months, but we personally have never needed air conditioning. If, however, you are someone who is used to keeping the house interior constantly cold and needs to have central air conditioning, this may not be the house for you.
