A remodeled 1930's cottage....that Jimi Hendrix stayed in when he was on Maui in 1970 to film Rainbow Bridge. Beautiful, quiet...REAL Maui! Recently remodeled, very cute! It is lined with cedar on the inside so it smells delightful when you walk in.... The Gingerbread House is a studio cottage with a kitchenette (toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, counter-top burners, full sized fridge) and spacious bathroom with a large custom-built, tiled shower.. It has high cathedral ceilings with a huge window that looks out on beautiful lush greenery. It is on a gated property with access to 8.5 acres. There is high speed wireless Internet in the cottage, as well as wireless available to you in several other locations on the property. There is also a Smart TV. Comes with a FREE FARM TOUR and/or LABYRINTH WALK with every booking! Getting married? Renewing your vows? I can perform the ceremony for you as well....free with 3-night booking! It has a queen sized bed, and an outdoor patio with a charcoal BBQ and chiminea for sitting beside a fire outside under the spectacular tree canopy. The property is on 4.5 acres of lush beauty with a seasonal stream, an organic farm, fruit trees galore (help yourself when in season....) papaya, banana, lilikoi (passion fruit), coffee, plantains, oranges, mac nuts, avocado, lychee, mango, guava, grapefruit, tangerines, lemons, coconuts, squash...and you also have access to an additional 4 acres on the adjacent property—which is home of The Sacred Garden, which has a 10,000 sq. ft. greenhouse, two walking labyrinths, water lily ponds, meditation gardens, and more ...and is free and open to the public daily--BEAUTIFUL! We are in an awesome location just 20 minutes from the airport and Costco, and only 2 miles to Makawao town restaurants and shops, 7 minutes to Paia, 5 minutes to Haiku town. 50 Minutes to Haleakala National Park entrance. The elevation is about 1000 feet which is PERFECT on Maui! We are about 10 degrees cooler than sea level which makes for absolutely comfortable days (70-80 degrees) and GREAT temps for sleeping (usually in the 60's). This is the MAXIMUM elevation you can stay and still go scuba diving on Maui. Speaking of diving...we are avid divers and can assist you booking Scuba Diving with the best dive operation on Maui. You will definitely want a rental car....there is a bus stop a mile or two away but not ideal....and bikes are a little hazardous as these are hilly, windy, narrow roads. We have two loving and enthusiastic Golden Retrievers, and a few cats on the property but no animals are inside the cottage. There are wild chickens and roosters, and cows on the property across the stream. We also have ocean front condos in Ma'alaea and a beach front condo in North Kihei if you want to divide your time between the lush, green jungle/garden setting and the crystal clear, turquoise waters of Maui! I also perform weddings so if you are thinking of getting married while you are on Maui....I can help you with that, as well! Please keep in mind that this is a jungle environment. We have the houses treated for pests quarterly so you should have minimal issues with insects, however, If you are phobic of insects, the jungle will not be your best bet. Gecko lizards are also common inside the houses in Hawaii. We consider them good luck (and they eat insects!) House Rules: Quiet Time 9pm-8am. Amplified sound that disturbs neighbors or other guests is prohibited. Parking (provided at no extra cost) must be on gated property, not on street. Parties and events are not allowed. Guest access You have access to the adorable cottage, wireless internet, BBQ, Washer and dryer, and the full 8.5 acres of two adjacent lots that includes The Sacred Garden... We have off road parking on a gated property. Some of our seasonal fruit you are welcome to help yourself to, some we harvest for sale....we are happy to show you which is okay to pick—and how to know when it is ready! Other things to note We have two extremely friendly dogs (Golden Retrievers) named Kumu and Maka who will enthusiastically greet you if they see you. There are wild chickens and roosters on the property and they start crowing around 4am. If you imagine you are on a Safari and they are lions roaring you will delightfully think "There's one!" instead of being annoyed. We try to keep them at a minimum but they are EVERY WHERE in Hawaii.
