Our beautiful cozy 4-room redwood cabin is located at the top of Kilauea Volcano, bordering on Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island of Hawaii. We pride ourselves in maintaining a clean, warm and cozy place for you to stay while visiting the National Park, and other attractions in east and south Hawaii. We provide free parking, free wi-fi, and our full kitchen is generously stocked with breakfast items. The space Crater Rim Cabin is located on the boundary of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in the edge of the ohia-fern forest of Kilauea. The cabin is nestled among ohia and koa trees in botanical-garden-like surroundings. At an elevation of just over 4000 feet we have a cool climate that is spring-like for most of the year. To keep you cozy at night, the cabin is equipped with a gas fireplace and a warming blanket, in case you need it. The back yard is on the boundary of the Park, and it is about 1.5 mile drive to the main Park entrance. There are a great many hiking trails in the Park, or you can see many of its amazing geologic features by car. We are only 22 miles from Punaluu Black Sand Beach Park, where you can often see sea turtles sleeping on the beach. Crater Rim Cabin makes a great base from which to explore the entire southern and eastern portions of the Big Island. We are 2.25 miles from the activity at Halemau’ma’u Crater and over 25 miles from the lava flows on the southeast part of the Big Island. We are feeling the excitement of frequent small earthquakes, but have experienced no damage from them. The predominate trade winds have been carrying any gas and ash from the summit, away from us to the southwest. Although the National Park is presently closed, there are many beautiful places to safely explore on the Big Island. Crater Rim Cabin makes an excellent base for such exploration.
