Honomū Haven is located in the quaint & charming town of Honomū, just 13 miles north of Hilo and 3 miles from 'Akaka Falls on the Big Island of Hawai'i. This 5 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 1.5 kitchen home was meticulously restored and renovated by one of the owners, a builder trained in Historic Preservation. Special care was taken to maintain the comfort and craftsmanship synonymous with a sugar plantation era home, while upgrading the conveniences expected in today's dwellings. Regular trade-winds blow clean air through the home, allowing guests to relax and enjoy the perfect temperatures that travelers seek on a trip to Hawai'i. Honomū town is a classic streetscape with cute shops located just a one minute walk from Honomū Haven. Local shops include Mr. Ed's Bakery, The Hive Cafe, Birra Boss Mexican Restaurant, Glass from the Past Antiques, Woodshop Art Gallery & Cafe, Purple Eye Boutique, and Hawaii Zipline Tours. Honomū is also the gateway to 'Akaka Falls State Park where you can take a short walk through the tropical rainforest and view the cascading 'Akaka & Kahuna Waterfalls. We welcome you to come and enjoy the lush, safe, and laid back Hāmākua Coast. Honomū Haven is nestled quietly at the end of town surrounded by beautiful churches of all denominations and a few residential homes. We ask all our guests to be kind and respectful to our neighbors and observe quiet hours between 9:00pm and 8:00am. No parties or large gatherings allowed. Across the street is Honomū Park which has a public gymnasium, expansive fields, a baseball diamond and a playground. The gym has a basketball court, ping pong table, pool table and a weight room. The mellow "city" of Hilo is conveniently just 15 minutes away by car, where all shopping, medical, banking, gas, dining, etc. needs may be met. The Hilo airport is an easy 25 minute drive away. Please note that Kona airport is a 2 hour drive from Honomū. Honomū Haven is clean, spacious and comfortable, perched on a manicured yard populated with delicious fruit trees, herbs and ornamentals including roses, orchids, and many other tropical plants. The smells and sounds of Hawai'i's flora and fauna will surround you at all times. Inside the home there are 5 bedrooms. Four bedrooms have comfortable queen beds while one bedroom has two twins, allowing for a total of ten guests. Honomū Haven is conveniently equipped to handle two families or groups, as the quarters are basically equal on both floors. There are two bedrooms with queen beds on the first floor, a full kitchen, a beautifully tiled full bathroom with a shower, living room with Smart TV and mudroom with washer/dryer. Head upstairs to the second floor and you will find two bedrooms with queen beds and one with two twins, a kitchenette, full bathroom with a bathtub and two sinks, living room, a balcony overlooking the front yard with views of Mauna Kea, and a screened in patio in the back with a view of the backyard and the ocean in the distance. In the front of the house there is a carport and driveway with space for two cars. Other amenities include: Spectrum cable TV and high speed WiFi, charcoal grill, sporting equipment and a piano, for the musically inclined. *Please note: this is an older home and the water pressure may not be what is expected in more modern dwellings. We have worked very hard over the past six years to remodel and update every part of this house that we can to make it comfortable for our guests, however there is a limit as to what we can do to increase the water pressure. Please be advised that the water pressure may not be as strong if you use both showers at the same time.* Honomū Haven is locally owned and managed, so additional items of interest and recommendations of activities are available upon request. There is a washer & dryer on the property along with a charcoal grill for outdoor cooking (please purchase your own charcoal). A small driveway leads to a covered garage with parking available for two cars. We have an on island property manager who is always available by phone or text for guests. I am available via Airbnb for any questions or concerns. I will provide you with instructions for accessing the front door keypad to let yourself in. Honomū Haven is situated at the quiet end of town near a couple of homes and churches. Honomū Park is directly across the street with a playground and fully equipped sports gym - great for keeping your keiki (children) entertained. Take a quick stroll down the street and visit Mr. Ed's Bakery and Hawaii Zipline Adventures as well as several boutiques & gift shops. Pick up delicious food and fresh island fruits & veggies and enjoy live music at the Hakalau Farmers Market, open Tuesdays 3:00 - 5:30pm at the Hakalau Veteran's Park. A car is recommended to comfortably and conveniently explore the Big Island. However, the Hele-On Bus stops right in Honomū Town on a (somewhat) regular basis and offers transportation to Hilo & Kona. When booking a flight, it's best to fly into Hilo which is the closest airport. Kona airport is a 2 hour drive from our home. Disclosure: Honomū Haven has stairs and is not wheelchair accessible. - Please let me know if you are traveling with infants or toddlers. I have baby/toddler gear available at our home. - Base nightly rate applies for up to 6 guests. There is a $25 charge per additional guest over 6 per night. - A $275 cleaning fee is required for all reservations. It is a large home and we pay the entire amount to our excellent cleaners. - Early check in or late check out requests may be considered on a case by case basis. Please make your request at the time of booking and know that it may not be confirmed until a day or two before check in.
