Close to many major attractions yet short drive to downtown Hilo. You’ll love the comfortable space, the peaceful yet convenient location, the lush yard, even access to swimming & waterfalls in the gorge behind the house. The studio is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. NOTE: Hawaii GE-067-950-7968-02 & TA-067-950-7968-01 The rental is hosted & per Hawaii County Planning Dept exempt from Hawaii Cty Bill 108 so we may consider <30 day rentals as well as longer periods. A very configurable, remodeled complete studio apartment, with brand new carpet, wood floors, tiled full bathroom with tub/shower combo, large windows and a private tile lanai with beautiful views of large yard which overlooks a tropical rain forest small river gorge. There are digital locks on the doors for which you’ll be given a code prior to arrival, for your convenience to come & go anytime & detailed instructions once inside. There is a lanai (deck) for your private use through the glass door off the back of your studio unit. Please just be quiet and mindful of others need for peace on the property. You are free to use the large backyard, too, complete with picnic table & benches, Adirondack chairs, etc. And a portable grill is available fur your use as well, in addition to boogie boards, snorkel gear, etc. Just ask and we will leave them for you.. You can park in the garage, right side. There is a shared laundry behind the curtains on the left side of the garage for your use, as well. Though it looks like it, the dryer does require quarters (we can show you how to use it without). We have recently been able to finally move to the island full-time, as we have long dreamed of doing, and are generally happy to interact as much or as little as guests please. There are actually two connected homes on the property and we live in the original home. There are digital locks on the doors for your convenience to come anytime & detailed instructions once inside, so you have to necessarily interact with nor meet the on-site hosts to check-in or anything if you wish to keep to yourselves. We are in the village of Papaikou, about five minutes North of downtown Hilo and a few minutes south of Scenic Drive & the beautiful botanical gardens there. A car is pretty much required on the Big Island as public transit is nearly non-existent and it is a big island! We do have a couple bikes available to use, though yours may be flat due to last usage. There is a bike pump in the garage behind the curtains on the far right, however. Please never park off the concrete. The gravel/paved roads out front are actually an easement for our neighbors up the hill and can never be blocked, please. The river and waterfall are a short walk away. Most of the path and the river/waterfalls are not on our property, but access is allowed. We endeavor to keep the path clear of growth, but be advised this is Hawaii, things grow fast here! It is difficult to keep up. Also, if it has been raining a lot, the path will be muddy and slippery. It is not recommended for young children or those with mobility issues. Of course, swimming It starts at a steep incline and then flat from there. Welcome to Hawaii, land of spectacular beauty that makes you work for it :) and the waterfall and river are gorgeous. Critters: Coqui Frogs: Like most of the Big Island, there are tiny, vociferous Coqui frogs that you will hear at night. It's the tropics, relax and enjoy their song! ;-). We do have ear plugs and white noise machine if needed. Mosquitoes: There are tiny annoying mosquitoes outside. We endeavor to keep standing water at bay, but we are on a river in a rain forest. We have bug spray that works very well, if needed. Also, they tend to be most active in early morning and late afternoon. Geckos: You WILL have them in your room. They are impossible to keep out and that will be true of any space on the island except perhaps the dry side in a sterile hotel :). No matter, they are considered good luck in Hawaii and since they eat roaches, centipedes and other very unwanted critters, they are very welcome. Roaches, centipedes and other critters: Again, tropical rainforest :). Professionals do a perimeter spray of the house very month. It works quite well to keep these very unwanted critters at bay. You can help by making sure to keep screen doors closed and food kept put away and cleaned up. That said, we almost never see critters in the house or units, but if you do... notify us immediately and we will take necessary action.
