The space ABOUT OUR HOUSE: Our house is located in Laie, which offers a lot of relaxation in an unspoiled part of Hawaii that remains very Polynesian in culture (i.e. very warm and friendly). The Polynesian Cultural Center, Oahu's most visited attraction, is just 1 mile up the road. The location of the house is unique. Just read the guest reviews! The house sits inside a beautiful state beach park. We have a 120-degree view of the ocean from the large covered deck. The only thing between our house and the beach is 40 steps across the grass field. Also, the beach easily ranks as one of the best in Hawaii. You will find yourself taking spectacular morning and evening beach walks. Because our beach is behind a reef, there are no big waves so you can swim year round. To our left, for 3/4 mile, there are no houses along the beach. Just tropical park trees. You really feel like you are on a tropical island. The beach is wide and the ocean is all sandy bottom. To our right there is great snorkeling and there is a popular local ocean play ground the locals call the "Alligator Pond" because a series of rocks in the water look like an alligator from afar. Kids love the pond because the water is shallow and warm so even toddlers can play without any waves (which are caught by those rocks). They get fascinated by the little tropical fish swimming around in the pond. Also to the left there are great areas for bigger kids (9+) to safely boogie board. Because our beach is behind a reef, the waves are just big enough to get some nice rides. A Little further up the beach waves are larger and longer. Great for the older kids. The best feature of the house is the large deck which is covered by the upstairs part of the house. Because trees to our right shield the house from Ocean winds you can enjoy every breakfast, lunch and dinner out on the deck overlooking the park and ocean. That is really relaxing! The house has 4 guest bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (w. shower/tub). Total square footage is about 1300. 3 bedrooms have queen beds, AC and TV. The 4th (usually the kids' room) has 2 double beds. We have a car port and a driveway that has room for two additional cars. Guest access We rent out the whole house except one upstairs bedroom, which is the owner's quarters when we are at the house (we are never at the house when there are guests so you have the house to yourselves). During your stay Our house keeper lives nearby should any assistance be needed. Other things to note THE LAW! By Oahu law, the following statement is required to be posted: "This property may not be rented for less than 30 consecutive days! The monthly rental fee will not be reduced or increased based on the number of days the rental is used." Simply put, your rental contract will cover 30 days (29 nights) and you have the right to stay as many of the 30 days as you desire. The cost is the stated monthly rate, regardless of the number of days you stay. OAHU RENTAL LAW Q&A Can we rent your house for 14 days? ANSWER: No. Oahu law requires that all rental contracts are for 30 or more days. You can stay at our house for 10 nights, or 14, 18, 23, etc. But you must book and pay for 29 nights. Do we have to stay 30 days? ANSWER: NO! Oahu does not require you occupy the house for the full month. But if you stay less than 30 days, no one else can stay at the house but you during your month. The monthly rent sounds like we would waste money if we only want to stay 14 nights. ANSWER: Just look at other properties right by the beach with 3 or 4 bedrooms and you will see that when you calculate your cost on a daily basis, our rate is lower than similar properties.
