The Forest Lot Cottage sits at the end of the road, nestled against a beautiful Ohia forest. Immaculately clean, fully equipped, private entrance. We are about 5 miles from the 2018 lava flow, which created the newest black sand beaches in the world. Our neighborhood is quiet and off the beaten path. The Cottage was intentionally designed with high ceilings, lots of windows, and a ceiling fan to maximize airflow. Included in the amenities is reliable wireless Internet. Snorkel gear and beach towels are available during your stay. There is no self-serve laundry, however I offer a laundry service for an additional fee. I am located next door and am available for information or guidance when requested, while also honoring my guests' privacy. The Cottage is 45 minutes from Hilo and 20 minutes from the closest town, Pahoa. Often, my guests like to pick up groceries or stop at a restaurant as they pass through town. Besides Uncle Robert's on Wednesday nights (decreased activity due to covid), there is no 'night life' close to the Cottage. That's part of the charm ;) Our night life includes star gazing, whale watching (Dec-Apr), enjoying time alone or with friends....you get the idea! Things to do during your stay at The Cottage… *Kehena Beach, a stunning black sand beach (clothing optional). On the right day, you might have the opportunity to swim with the dolphins that frequent the coastline. 25 minute walk (1.5 miles) *MacKenzie State Recreation Area, explore this coastal park, softened by the ironwood trees. Walking path that goes to Malama Ki, a sandy bottom lagoon that fills up with the right combo of high tide and big waves! (5.3 miles) *Pohoiki Beach: one of our favorite long time surf spots that gained a brand new black beach and a couple of hot ponds as a result of the Summer 2018 lava eruption. (7 miles) *Ancient Hawaiian cemeteries, and a piece of the Kings Trail constructed in the 1800s (within 2 miles) *Drive the beautiful coastal Red Road, tree canopied, lush, natural Hawaii, shallow tide pools, ocean views. *Look into the Airbnb Experiences that are offered close to the Cottage. *Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (approx 50 miles) *Visit local markets for an abundant selection of tropical fruits and vegetables, as well as unique gift items. Wednesday Night Market at Uncle Robert's: (decreased activity due to covid) live music, dancing, food, local scene (5 miles) Saturday morning market at the end of Hwy 137. 8am-12ish (4 miles) Maku'u outdoor market, just outside of Pahoa, on Sunday morning (18 miles) Hilo Farmers Market on Wednesday & Saturday (34 miles) *Relax (0 miles) Most people feel the need for a car when visiting the Puna area. There is a daily bus service to Pahoa and Hilo for $2, however, it is not very frequent. This is a gay friendly accommodation. All 'diversities' are welcome and encouraged. Because the Cottage is at the end of the road and tucked away, the private setting allows it to be clothing optional, if you choose. I highly recommend you arrive before dark, as there are no streetlights after you pass Pahoa. If you do arrive after dark, I will leave the lanai light on for you. Please turn off ALL your outdoor lights once you’re settled in for the evening. Note: Lights w/ dimmer switches: front overhead lanai light, ceiling fan light (on remote), kitchen sink pendants, bathroom overhead globe. Please use the retractable screen doors to significantly reduce the possibility of sharing the Cottage with bugs. When locking and unlocking your car doors, please use the MANUAL lock instead of beeping the alarm. We appreciate being able to contribute to the peaceful nature of the community. I can't stress this enough...If there is something I can do to improve your stay, PLEASE let me know. If you wish you had a blender, an iron, another towel, etc., just ask. As far as I know, everything is in perfect working order. If you experience anything subpar, kindly let me know and I will address it. Hawaii tax is already included in your nightly rate
