With 180 degree views of the ocean from the farmhouse, you feel as if you are in a world of its own. Take a walk through a grove of avocado trees or just relax in one of the several indoor/outdoor sitting areas, including a gazebo and a covered lanai. Located within an hour of Volcano National Park, Green Sands Beach, Black Sands Beach, and Honaunau National Park ("two-step" snorkeling). Skywind Farm is on the slopes of Mauna Loa, an active shield volcano and one of the largest volcanoes on Earth. The farm is situated between two lava flows from the early 1900's, and thrives from the volcanic soil of the island. The farmhouse was originally built in 1948 and is adorned with lava rock walls circa old Hawaii. The space has been updated with bright whites and modern furnishings yet still holds the charm of the original farmhouse. Close to secluded beaches, historical national beach parks, and the Kilauea volcano crater, it's a great location to explore several areas of the island. Although our guests find that they never have to leave the farm to enjoy the relaxing vacation that they need. Guest access Guests at Skywind Farm can enjoy the private backyard oasis including an indoor/outdoor remodeled bird aviary for reading, yoga, or meditation, a gazebo with ocean views for morning coffee or evening sunsets, night time lighting, and seating for enjoying the sunshine and views. Inside the farmhouse, we offer a well-equipped kitchen- including a stove-top espresso maker and coffee grinder for all the fresh Kona coffee. Wifi is available throughout the home and in the gazebo and aviary. Guests may use the Apple TV to access Netflix, Hulu, movies, TV shows, and more on the TV in the living room. *Laundry service is available for guests that stay longer than 5 nights. There are two designated grass parking areas available for guest use directly in front of the house. Snorkel gear and beach gear is also available for guests that wish to enjoy the world-class snorkeling and secluded beaches near by. Other things to note As guests at Skywind Farm, you will be staying in a tropical country home in a secluded farm neighborhood (with easy access to the highway), just a couple things about the home that may differ from other houses: RURAL LOCATION: The farmhouse is located in a rural area of the Big Island, about 30 miles (55+ minutes) south of Kailua-Kona and close to many Big Island must-see attractions (Green Sand Beach, City of Refugee, Black Sand Beach). It is only 10- 15 minutes from a shopping center with two grocery stores, several small restaurants, and food trucks on the weekends. On the farm there are fewer eateries to choose from than in a city but see our guidebook for some of the great food options near by. Many of our guests make use of the well-equipped kitchen and outdoor BBQ grill during their stay on the farm. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, the only difference you may notice is that we provide a countertop toaster oven to reheat food instead of a microwave. *Please note: Our address is in Captain Cook, but we are about 20 miles south of Captain Cook town. SUSTAINABLE WATER: Skywind Farm has a sustainable water system, using catchment. This means our water is collected from the rain and stored on property. This water is great for showers and sinks, you may even find the water less harsh on your skin and hair as it has not been treated with chlorine or other additives. For drinking, we provide purified water for our guests to enjoy that comes from a near-by Hawaiian spring, and it is delicious! To save on water we do limit access to laundry and offer a laundry service to guests that stay 5 days or more. TROPICAL SETTING: The farm is in a lush and beautiful part of the island with warm days all year round. The farmhouse is treated regularly for insects, although due to the tropical setting don't be surprised if you meet a friendly bug from time to time.
