Licensed vacation rental on small Banana farm 1 mi. from Kehena black sand beach, one of the least developed populated coasts in Hawaii. King bed, full kitchen, screened lanai, outdoor shower & Jacuzzi bathtub/shower. Nearby viewing of the 2018 lava flow, swimming, snorkeling, hiking. Located in rural Kalapana Seaview neighborhood. Nearest store 10 mins, town with services is Pahoa, 20 mins away. Hilo, 45-60 minutes away. Volcano Park 1 hour. All of island accessible from here for day trips. Now with A/C! Fully licensed, legal vacation rental! One could spend a whole vacation in the area just exploring nature and relaxing in the cottage or nearby black sand beach. Located away from the hustle and bustle of touristy areas in one of the few remaining undeveloped "Old Hawaii" areas. Bananarama Cottage features a large screened-in lanai with dining table and loveseat, King bed, indoor Jacuzzi whirlpool bath tub & shower. Its design is inspired by its location on a small banana & tropical fruit farm featuring over 70 different varieties of bananas. Perfect for 1-2 guests. Cottage and 1/5 acre property are not shared with others. Owners/caretakers are on neighboring property to provide assistance if needed. Shower under the stars in our glorious outdoor shower with a wall of orchids! Bananarama Cottage has bright, cheery colors, lots of windows to allow tropical breezes and ocean views from the bedroom, kitchen, and living room. The whimsical banana theme carries into every room. Each space is well lit, with modern, quiet ceiling fans in the living room and bedroom. Features custom-built furniture using local woods such as mango, monkeypod, and lychee. Though rarely needed, it has a new A/C wall (not window) unit in living room which cools the whole house and keeps the bedroom quiet. Most guests prefer open windows and cooling trade winds so the choice is yours. • WiFi • 65" 4K HDR LCD TV with Blu-Ray/DVD/Netflix player & laptop connector • Well equipped small kitchen with 4 burner stove & oven, full-size refrigerator/freezer, microwave, coffee maker & bean grinder, toaster, and blender • Snorkel masks (full face & regular masks & fins for 2+ provided & bleach dipped between guests) • Beach towels • Keyless entry (no keys to lose!) • Desk with USB chargers, Qi wireless chargers ** Hawaii state law requires listing General Excise & Transient Accommodation license number, and Hawaii County law requires listing of STVR and NUC numbers for unhosted rental. Listings without these required numbers may not be legal or reliable. Numbers are in pictures. Large lawn, yard, and access to surrounding banana farm. Large, ocean front park is available to guests. Driveway can fit 3 cars and there is plenty of street parking. We listen to our guests' needs and interact accordingly. We try to meet guests when we're available and encourage guests to say hello to us at our bakery in Pahoa, where we usually are. The cottage is in the Kalapana Seaview neighborhood in the Puna district of the Big Island. Conservation zoning of the coastline keeps the area much as it was 100 years ago. Gorgeous oceanfront cliffs are a 5-minute walk away. Huge, oceanfront lawn at the entrance to Seaview. Activities nearby are also listed on our website, which will be emailed. Details on the cottage and surrounding area are in a blue binder, located on the living room table. Nearby you can: • Visit the world’s newest black sand beaches at Pohoiki, Kapoho, and MacKenzie State Park • Relax, swim, and snorkel at clothing-optional, LGBT-friendly Kehena black sand beach • Swim in Hawaii's only natural, volcanically heated ponds at Pohoiki beach • Walk or drive one of the most scenic coastal roadways in Hawaii • Visit the Saturday farmers market at Kaimu, a 5 minute drive away • Watch humpback whales from the ocean-front park and cliffs (December to March) • Swim with dolphins at nearby Kehena Beach • See Fissure 8, the main source of the 2018 eruption in the middle of a neighborhood, 15 minute drive • Visit Volcanoes National Park and active Kilauea caldera • Beaches, snorkel spots, and museums in Hilo • Waterfalls and botanical gardens north of Hilo • Reach any other spot on the island within 3 hours A car is strongly recommended to get around easily on the Big Island, including to and from Bananarama Cottage. A local bus stop is three blocks away with 2 times daily service to Pahoa, Hilo, and beyond. 20-30 minutes from Pahoa. 45-60 minutes from Hilo airport. 2.5 hours from Kona airport. 1 Hour from Volcanoes National Park. 10 minutes to Kalapana and MacKenzie State Park. Eco-conscious, using LED lighting, quadruple filtered (including Ultraviolet) rainwater catchment water supply for safe, great tasting drinking water, and on-demand water heating. Many rentals in Puna expect guests to provide their own bottled water or don't inform guests about lack of safe water. Water from every source at the cottage is safe to drink. Surrounding property is a banana and tropical fruit farm called Seaview Farms. Pull up onto the parking pad next to the stairs. If arriving at night, turn on lights just inside the lanai screen door on the right. The historic plantation town of Pahoa is a 20 minute drive away. It offers grocery, natural foods, and drug stores, gas, and is home to some great restaurants and farmer's markets with fresh, local produce. We recommend buying groceries at Target, Safeway, or KTA in Hilo before arriving. Hilo is 45 minutes away and Volcanoes National Park is 1 hour. There is only AT&T cell service at the cottage and neighborhood. Some cell phones generally do not work well in this part of the Big Island, which is true for much of the island. Often Verizon & other signals work from the ocean front park. The Cottage works with WiFi calling for phones that can access it. Other WiFi calling options such as FaceTime and other services work well. Internet is typically 11-14 Mbps and works well for 1080p HD streaming. There is a smart TV and blu-ray player, both with streaming apps, but no live TV cable/satellite service. Use our Netflix, etc. or cast from your device, connect laptop via HDMI/Apple display port, or enjoy a selection of Hawaii-focused movies and documentaries on disc. Hawaii Transient Accommodation Tax and GE Tax ID# is required by the State of Hawaii on all listings. This is a way to know if an Airbnb listing is legal. Unless the host lives on the same property, most Airbnbs here are also required to post the STVR number and, outside of resort areas, the NUC number.
