Hawaii has a tropical climate and insects and small reptiles are plentiful. For those that are phobic about the occasional gecko or a beetle that strays inside, we suggest that our accommodations may not suit. From the reviews you will see that this is rarely an issue. The apartment, while private and secure is semi open air. The kitchenette is in a small atrium like space with a clear roof and views of the garden. The bathroom is secured but not fully screened in. There is a ceiling fan and a mosquito net in the bedroom. Guests have the option to close the bedroom up if they wish. Wifi is provided. There is a private gate access to this apartment from the street.Guests are welcome to spend time in the garden or sit in our guest lounge area. We love to host but We will take our cue from each guest as to how much interaction they want to have with us. In the case of long term stays or stays over 7 nights, we offer weekly assistance for weekly housekeeping. We love the slower pace of life here and artists, musicians and entrepreneurs who call 'Hilo' home make this a fun town to explore. The heart of Downtown Hilo is only 3 blocks. In this area you will find restaurants and several great venues for live music. Downtown Hilo has a licensed cafe that serves fresh brewed Kombucha , a tavern, a tapas bar, several sushi restaurants, several Thai restaurants to name a few. There are food trucks and small food booths at the farmer's market. There are also plenty of little stores to browse in. Hilo is a very walkable town with restaurants, live music venues, stores and a farmers market all within an easy walk. For those who choose not to hire a car, there are taxi tours and bus tour operators to several of the major sights on the East side of the island. Beach towels & wifi are available. We strongly encourage our guests to recycle.
