Located on the tropical Hamakua Coast in the historic town of Honokaa, this home has 2 decks with beautiful ocean views, beside a tropical gulch. It sleeps 6 with a Calif King Tempurpedic bed, a queen sofa sleeper & twin bamboo daybeds. The bamboo daybeds are good for children & short/average people. The home has 1.5 baths which include a spa tub & separate shower, free high speed Wifi and Koi pond. The kitchen is fully equipped with every thing you need to cook a full meal. “Luana Ola” in Hawai’ian means “To be at leisure, enjoying pleasant surroundings and good health”. Luana Ola Villa & Cottages are located on the tropical Hamakua Coast, near Waipio Valley on the Big Island of Hawaii. Imagine watching from your own private lanai (deck) a panoramic, unobstructed view of the ocean, embraced between a Terra Verdeʹ of Hawaii and a never boring, brilliant Big Sky. The ocean reflects the sky that is often shaped by the ocean. The showers are mostly gentle, warm and do not wear out their welcome. When the trade winds bring a heavy rain, they reward you with a white water river running through the gulch guarding you on the left. The sound of thundering white waters passing you as you eat dinner, read, or lay in bed will make you wish for another strong storm to come by. The sky oscillates between azure colors the Mediterranean cannot have, the grey of passing clouds, and on a clear night you can be tempted to pretend you are grabbing a sparkling jewel from a pitch black heaven. Spend the whole day simply relaxing or visit nearby Waipio Valley, the Big Island’s Grand Canyon with an ocean starting at a black sand beach, or drive 25 minutes to the Akaka Falls, among the tallest cascading falls in North America. Hilo, the Capital, is 45 minutes south of us. Kona is 50 minutes drive away. Hapuna Beach, voted the best beach in the State of Hawai’i and one of the top 10 beaches in the U.S., is 40 minutes from us. The active part of the Mauna Loa Volcano (the red eye) is 1.5 hours away. Our location is completely sheltered from the active vents on the Island by the massive 14,000 feet Mauna Kea Mountain. The house it self is 3 stories high with the garage on the ground level. The first floor is all open with the kitchen and dining room on one level and the living room and deck down 3 steps. There is also a 1/2 bath and a storage room. The upstairs has the spa bath, shower, etc., large deck, laundry, closet and the 2 bedrooms. There is not a lot of privacy between the bedroom areas. They are separated by a forlding door. Anyone sleeping on the bamboo day beds must past the master bed to get to the bathroom. There is also a small office area with desk and printer/copier which you are welcome to use. Both toilets have a bidet attachment for better personal hygiene. Available for your use are beach towels, boogie boards, snorkel gear, a cooler and a small Smokey Joe BBQ that you can take to the beach. Pack N Play & Umbroller available upon request. Quiet hours are from 9:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., during which time the noise should not disturb the neighbors. Sound that is audible beyond the property boundaries during non-quiet hours shall not be more excessive than would be otherwise associated with a residential area. There is parking for one vehicle only in the designated parking area. This rental shall not be used for commercial purposes. Guests have the whole house to themselves. We reserve the garage for our personal use. We live on the mainland but are always available by phone, text or email. We have a housekeeper/property manager (Virginia Stephens) who lives nearby and can help if a need arises. The house is on a very quiet street in the historic Town of Honokaa. You can walk to a farmer's market on the corner, visit the many shops and restaurants, even see a movie in the Honokaa People's theater or possibly a live performances. You can walk to the grocery store, hardware store, Post Office, etc. There is a library and a public pool. It is best to rent a car if you want to see all the sights on the island but there is a bus that goes to Kona and Hilo. Tours can also be arranged. Absolutely no parties. This house is not good for people who have problems climbing stairs. There is a flight up to the front door, a flight up to the bedrooms and a flight down the back to a sitting area. Please do not feed the fish. There is no air conditioner. It is usually not necessary. There are fans and many windows with screens. During the rainy season, if needed, there is a dehumidifier available and small portable heaters. Some people complain about the coqui frogs and others enjoy the night sounds. We find that if you close all the windows at night and turn on the fans, you will sleep quite comfortably.
