As of October 1, 2023 we will be running as a Bed and Breakfast and will be serving continental breakfast! Room with standard double bed. Shared bathroom. All very clean and neat. The room is well ventilated and is situated in a 6 bedroom 3 story house on 3 acres of tranquil paradise. Includes WiFi, cable and beach towels. Close to Hilo and Volcano. Our home is not suitable for children under 12 years old. Medium size bedroom on first floor (a few steps) with a double/ full size bed and 2 windows for good cross ventilation, a desk with lamp and television. The property is situated 20 minutes drive from the Volcano National Park. We have books and maps available to be used for planning your excursions. The Big Island is a very special place, with one of the few active volcanoes in the world. A must see is the Volcano National Park to see volcanic steam vent holes and walk on numerous hiking trails. Here are some free things you can do, the Akatsuka Orchid farm, snorkel and look at the colorful tropical fish small and low key Panaewa zoo, stop at South Point (Ka Lae), the most southern point of US territory, green sand beach, Rainbow falls, the Boiling pots, snorkel/swim with dolphins at Ho'okena or 2 steps, St Benedict`s Painted Church, walk the Hilo down town stores and fruit market place, visit the Captain Cook Monument at Kealakekua bay, walk down the spectacular Waipio or Polulu valleys, travel up Mauna Kea to look at the Observitory and stars through the telescopes set up at the Onizuka Center for International Astronomy, swim with the ocean turtles or see them sleep and bask at many of the more secluded beaches on the island, like Kiholo Bay and Punalu'u Black Sand Beach, tan and swim at many of the white sand beaches, like Magic Sands, Hapuna, Mauna Kea, Makalavena, visit many of the historic Hawaiian centers on the island and bath in the water fall at the Kolekole Beach Park. These are only but a few things you could do, too many to mention. Paying things would be, to visit the Tsunami museum, Akaka Falls, Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden, take a fight on the Blue Hawaiian helicopters, swim and snorkel with the manta-rays at night, Zip line across the Akaka falls or rain forest settings, ATV and horse riding excursions, variety of boat and catamaran activities being offered. Kayaking and stand up paddle boarding could also be a fun activity to do. Shared kitchen/living room, lanai, and bathroom. We live on property and are available as needed. My wife and I are sometimes available as a tour guides, depending on our work schedules. We are familiar with the island and what it has to offer because it's our home. Previously, I lived on the West side but I have lived on the island for decades. My wife was born in East Hawaii. Our charge is normally $25/hour if we are going in your vehicle. If you don't have a vehicle, and we drive our vehicle, we would charge $30/hour plus gas. This might allow you to forgo on renting a vehicle. Feel free to inquire more if interested. This is a pretty quiet neighborhood situated 20 minutes drive outside of Hilo on route to Volcano. I have books and maps available to be used for planning your excursions. The Big Island is a very special place, with one of the few active volcanoes in the world. A must see is the Volcano National Park, where you can drive to the Arch at the ocean, look in various craters, walk inside a lava tube, see volcanic steam vent holes and walk on numerous hiking trails. Kayaking and stand up paddle boarding could also be a fun activity to do. You really need a vehicle to get around and see this island. There is a bus route 2 and a half miles from the house run by Hele On bus company. You need to read and understand the very limited schedule and realize it is not for sightseeing. Also the road we live on is not pedestrian friendly, it has no shoulder and no streetlights. No smoking on premises. Please leave your footwear outside the front door on the shoe rack. Please close doors quietly instead of letting them slam. Please close doors quickly to keep mosquitoes out.
