The Lava Hale is a contemporary "Hawaiian Style" wood home built with natural and locally sourced materials. A perfect choice for travelers wanting a home experience and their own secluded piece of paradise! The Home (The "Lava Hale") Surrounded by the lush rainforest and your own private garden, this Hale offers two floors of separate living space in one home. Recently upgraded with new beds and additional loving touches of aloha, The Lava Hale is an outstanding option for larger families or two groups traveling together (usually requiring two separate hotel bookings to be able to stay together) This home is also the perfect choice for a couple or small group, wanting the extra space and privacy that our home tucked away in the rainforest provides. Details..... (Main House/Second Floor) Set up to be a perfect retreat for a couple, this spacious open concept unit includes a full kitchen, dining area, futon/couch, small tv, king sized bed, and attached bathroom offering a shower and bathtub! There is also a beautiful wrap around lanai (patio), perfect for enjoying the sweet bird songs over breakfast or spending an afternoon in the hammock with a book, perched in your own oasis along the tree tops. (Ohana Unit/First Floor) For larger bookings, we also offer the additional sleeping area on our first floor known as the Ohana Hale. This equally spacious studio provides two additional (California King) Beds, and small bathroom. (Closed... Outdoor shower/tub are not open for use at this time. Closed for repairs) For those looking for an unforgettable jungle experience, there is an outdoor bathtub that is perfect for relaxing and recharging while surrounded by the hypnotizing sounds of the rainforest. *Please keep in mind that this bathtub is located outdoors and in a screened room, so privacy is limited. *The two units are completely separate, connected only by an outside staircase *** The Private Tropical Garden We recommend that all guests find time to wander our private tropical gardens, where you may find treats like rare orchids or seasonal fruit like Hawaiian lilikoi (passion fruit), bananas or pineapple. *Lilikoi can be picked straight from the vine if ready! The outside will be bright yellow when ripe and ready! If pineapple or bananas are ready during your visit, your local host will harvest for you. Please ask your local host for assistance before removing it from the plants. Mahalo Please Note... 1) The home is used as a primary residence for the owner and her family part of each month. For this reason you may find some personal effects about or open food items (to share) in the kitchen during your stay. 2) We are excited to announce that we are in the final phase of a scheduled upgrade to our home. So please pardon our dust and understand that some things may not be available, and the decor and layout may slightly differ than some shared photos Guest access We rent the entire house to one guest at a time, so please don't worry about ever having to share our home with someone else outside your travel companions. This bi-level home offers two separate living spaces, perfect for two families or couples who are vacationing together, but want privacy to sleep each night. Marcy will be your on-island host and local guide! She is a just around the corner, so feel free to contact her (text is usually best) with any questions you may have during your stay Located 14 miles outside of the town of Pahoa, the neighborhood of Seaview Estates is a secluded community located along the famous "Red Road", and just up the way from the old town of Kalapana. The town itself was taken by Lava in the 1980s, but is still worth a stop to take a quick hike to the coast, learn a bit of local history and grab a smoothie or drink at the bar. The Lava Hale itself is located within a walking distance from Kehena Black Beach, an amazing natural beauty located just below the lava formed cliffs, and the perfect spot to watch the sunrise , and if you're lucky playful spinner dolphins or whale too! The Seaview community has a private seaside lawn where neighbors spend their evenings gathering with friends or having dinners under the stars. *Our community, and the town of Pahoa is known for its laidback and hippy-like vibe, so we ask that guests read in detail about our town and our local beach prior to your stay. Weekends can bring visitors from all over the island, so note that the lawn and local beach can be a lot more crowded. You will NEED a Car! DRIVING Due to the remote location of our community, it is recommend you have a car for the entirety of your stay. (You are 15 miles outside of town) PUBLIC TRANSIT Buses, ride shares and rentals are very limited in our area, so please do not rely on these options. WALKING *To the Beach... The Red Road, which you would take to the beach can be very dangerous to walk on, (there are no paved sidewalks and drivers tend to drive fast)! When walking to the beach during the day, Do NOT walk in the road, and please avoid walking the Red Road at Night! *Walking the Neighborhood... Walking around seaview is very popular and highly recommended. Other Important Things to Note Before Booking... *In this area of Hawaii we all must share our homes with adorable green geckos, who are very curious creatures that love to hang out and just watch you go about your day. These little friends are quick and quite shy, so they will rarely venture down the walls or let you get too close. In Hawaii lizards and geckos are not only cute housemates, but they are also a huge help by faithfully gobbling up things like mosquitoes, fruit flies and other unwanted visitors. These friends are found in practically every home on Hawaii Island, and will help complete your Hawaiian experience. * We are actually in a lush tropical jungle rainforest...This means you will likely experience some wind and RAIN during your stay! Most rain showers come over night, and clear by late morning leaving us with our famous rainbows. * We have many things you likely have not experienced before, like exotic birds, a random wild pig and nightly choir of coqui frogs. * We have great neighbors, many of who work from home so don't stay up late and stay nice and quiet, so you will have nothing to disrupt the serene tropical escape you seek!
