This is a beautiful romantic cottage just minutes from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It has lots of large picture windows to bring nature into the rooms. The setting is quiet, secluded, simple and serene. It's a perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii. It is just minutes from the Volcano Village where you can find restaurants and farmers markets. Drive 27 miles, you are in Hilo. A quaint town with lots of restaurants, supermarkets, retail stores and a historic theater. The cottage is built 6 feet above the ground on the front side (with 14 stairs up to the front door) and at ground level on the backside. It is all wood and glass with open beam construction. It’s tucked into a mostly native forest of Hawaiian Ohia and Hapu’u (Hawaii Tree Fern) that is glorious in the mountain sun. This little cottage has ten large picture windows to give it a beautiful, expansive, tree-top view of the surrounding trees and vibrant plant life. It has one bedroom with a queen-size bed, a sitting room with an expansive outdoor view and a small bathroom with a tub/shower. There is an open veranda partway around the cottage as well as a back deck to relax and enjoy the late afternoon sun. The entire cottage is about 850 sq. ft. Very comfortable and spacious for two people. There is a TV screen (no cable TV) and DVD player in the sitting room for you to enjoy movies in the evening after a day of exploring. There is a gas fireplace in the sitting room for great ambiance and for those cold mountain evenings. The kitchen is fully equipped with a 4-burner propane stovetop, toaster oven, microwave oven, under-counter small size fridge, and all basic kitchen utensils & supplies. We also provide the basic supplies in the pantry such as salt, pepper, organic olive oil, organic honey, sugar, organic coffee, tea bags, and filtered drinking water. If you are planning to visit other areas of the Big Island, we have another vacation rental at the North East side of the Big Island. It is a perfect spot to explore hidden gems on the Hamakua Coast of this island. Go to our profile page and check out our Rainbow Bee Farm Cottage. We will be happy to answer any questions before and after your arrival. Feel free to contact us by phone or by email. This is our own retreat cottage. We love it. We hope you'll enjoy it and care for it as we do. It is a place for quiet contemplation and meditative retreat with a feeling of serenity both inside and outside. We want our guests to experience the magic of Hawaii. Whether you decide to visit with us or not, we send you our Aloha, The cottage is on a half-acre property. Feel free to walk around on different footpaths or along stepping stones, but be very careful as the ground can get slippery especially when it is wet. The cottage is 6 feet above ground. Washer & dryer are under the house. Please be careful when using washer & dryer as the ceiling is very low. The storage area under the house is closed for guest access. Otherwise, guests have full access to the cottage and the yard as well as the covered carport. We live over 90 minutes from the cottage. We won't be able to meet our guests in person. But we are always just a phone call or a text message away. The cottage has a smart lock and a detailed Cottage Information Binder. Guests can do self check-in easily. We are happy to give recommendations on local activities, hiking trails and restaurants. Volcano is a beautiful lush green area and is a nature lovers' heaven. You will hear lots of beautiful melodies of Hawaiian native birds in the cottage and in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park just minutes away from the cottage. Volcano is at three thousand three hundred feet elevation. So the weather here is much cooler than what you would expect for Hawaii, especially in the winter time and at night. Be sure to bring a light jacket in the summer time and a warm jacket in the winter time. It is also a rainforest. So we have more rain than other parts of the island. Be sure to bring a rain jacket when packing your luggage. We will be happy to answer any questions before and after your arrival. Feel free to contact us by phone or by email. The cottage is 35 minutes from the Hilo Airport and 2 hours from the Kona Airport. There is no public transportation to the cottage. Rental cars are available at both airports. There is a covered carport for guest in front of the cottage. ~ Guests will need to walk up a 14 step staircase to the front door of the cottage. Please be aware if you may have trouble carrying luggage up the stairs. ~ There is a bathtub in the bathroom, but because the water pressure is rather low, it will take a very long time to fill up the bathtub. So it's not very convenient to take a bath. Also because of limited water supply (we collect rainwater for all our water supply), we request guests not to take bath but take showers instead. ~ Please conserve water since we have limited water supply. ~ There is no grocery store in the Volcano Village. The closest supermarket is 20 minutes away. We recommend guests to pick up groceries or supplies in Hilo before driving up to Volcano. ~ Washer / dryer is available only to longer term guests staying 21 days or longer.
