Windows are positioned to allow the surrounding rain forest view and morning sun rise/evening glow to light and enhance your stay. A chorus of birdsong announces the day and the soft chant of frogs serenade the night. You can cook with a gas burner. -Complimentary coffee, tea, island fruits, fresh baked banana bread, juices & granola. Basic oil, shoyu and hot sauce. -We provide a Complimentary First Night light Pupu/snack in the privacy of Eco Hale to make the beginning of your moments here 'extra special'. Please request. -Umbrellas and flashlights are provided for your use on property and during your early morning or late night adventures. -Save on rental equipment! Our boogie boards, cooler and beach chairs, are a great "grab-and-go" feature. You will need to bring your personal snorkel equipment. -Minimum Reservation is 4 nights. This 1 acre slice of Paradise is located 1/2 way between Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (Kilauea Volcano IS Erupting) and historic Hilo town; 20 miles either way. Our rural neighborhood is designed on one acre lots in upper Puna with access 5 miles off Hwy 11, asphalt 1 and 2 lane entry roads and graveled roads This is an option for eco-travelers, trekkers, hikers, glampers and gampers. Farmers Markets Mon thru Sun: Kea'au Village and Hilo Town. Check-in is ONLY between 3pm and 6pm. Hawaii Does Not observe Daylight Savings Time so 6pm can be DARK. Kona arrivals, please research time and distance on Saddle Road, south via South Point or North thru Waimea and the Hamakaua coast. We recommend each as a Unique Beautiful Day drive. Keep in mind the Island of Hawaii is LARGER than all of the other islands COMBINED; plan your arrival and adventures with this consideration. 4-5 days pre arrival we will send Detailed Driving Instructions. You are free to enjoy the trails on the property. Our shared Solar Power System provides ample comforts. We will not run the back up generator after 9pm or before 7 am; we typically do not run the generator at all. This is an Emergency Only back-up system. Distancing & Privacy are mutually respected. We are familiar with the Island of Hawaii and are passionate about the lifestyle and culture. Let us know pre-arrival of your special interests. Our active lifestyle may not allow for daily commentary. The Puna district is a huge triangle area encompassing territory between Hilo, Volcano, Pahoa and Kalapana. We are in Upper Puna. View lava fields in Lower Puna by air or by hiking to our newest black sand beach, Pohoiki. We feel safe living with Nature. The area also contains the largest relatively untouched Ohia forests in the islands, currently being threatened by Rapid Ohia Death. This is a unique area and is relatively undeveloped maintaining it's origin. Agriculture is still a large part of the subsistence economy. We are located close enough to Hilo, Kea'au and Volcano Village for provisions and dining but still a world away from the fast track at the resorts. We recommend you pre-check access & availability for all venues. -Historical Hilo town offers museums, tours, local peeps, markets, craft fairs, Queen Liliokalani Park, zoo, arboretum, caves, golf course, art and local grinds/foods. -Locals Beach Parks: In Keaukaha=Onekahakaha, Carlsmith, Richardson, Lokoaka Wilderness, Leleiwi, Black Sands in Naalehu, Green Sands/Papakolea at South Point -Snorkel: Kepo'okalani, Kumukahi, Keaukaha area. -Hawaii Volcanoes National Park -AND a long list of trails, hikes, botanical gardens, parks, waterfalls and of course, lava. The previous are East Hawaii accessible for one-day adventures returning leisurely to the comforts of Eco Hale. -North, South and West Hawaii areas offer adventures for deeper immersion with appropriate planning. Eco Hale is HALF WAY between Hilo and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. You will need a vehicle. East Hawaii's smaller population base offers distinctly less traveled paths; with the exception of early morning drive time, 6am-8am. There is No Bus service to this neighborhood; 5 miles off Hwy 11. Check in is 3pm-6pm. 15-20 miles in any direction from Eco Hale you typically will find much different weather patterns and vegetation growth. Hawaii Island is larger than ALL of the other Islands combined. Historic Hilo offers shopping, memories of days gone by, history, provisions and mostly three to four star dining at two to four star pricing. HVNP offers inspiration, unmatched landscape, skies, adventure and 3-4 Star dining at 4-5 star pricing. Stargazers info: a 4-wheel drive is required to visit the Observatories atop Mauna Kea summit (43 miles from Hilo/70 miles from Kona) OR researching tour companies for a one evening trip may be most cost effective for you. A month long stay could Begin to quench your curiosity. Eco Hale is an off-grid sanctuary retreat. Broadband Internet is currently at No Charge; Wifi nest connect. Media/Streaming is limited to one device at a time. Please conserve our resources. Various free Hotspots in Hilo, Volcano and the greater Puna area are additional options. Guest must bring their own lap top or NotePad. OFuro Soaking Hot Tub is strictly limited to use between 3:00pm/1500hrs and 10:00pm/2200hrs, operating within our solar powered system. Last Pour is at 9:30pm/2130hrs. As a rural development "off-the-beaten track" your Holiday can be one of a kind but please remember, this is a Country Living location-Hawaiian style. Read our Getting Around Section for additional details. This is a tropical climate. We co-exist with the frogs, birds & bees, and watch animals in the neighborhood. We do have 7 laying hens; No rooster. Items Left Behind will cost $50 of my time, plus appropriate postage & insurance if you require.
