There is lots to see and enjoy, especially for hikers. The gorgeous Punalu'u Black Sand beach and shoreline are a short walk or drive (1/3 mile). Please shop for groceries and drinks in Kailua Kona or Hilo before arriving, as there are few options in the immediate area. Once you arrive and relax, you won't want to go searching for food. Within 30 minutes drive there are a few coffeeshops, restaurants and a drugstore, but with limited hours. Note: there is no heat or A/C in this year-round breezy tropical location, so you can hear the birds and ocean. Warm days, cool nights. Read below for more details. Welcome to the countryside of genuine Old Hawaii, amidst oceanfront coffee plantations and macademia nut farms, with crashing ocean waves, idyllic beaches with sea turtles, far away from stereotypical "tourist attractions". This is a magical, life-changing place. Be ready to connect with nature, see the Milky Way in the dark night sky, or experience the awe of a full moon rising over the ocean. The positive energy is contagious. Enjoy this gorgeous ground-floor studio condo with king size bed, full bathroom with sunken tub, fully equipped (but small) kitchen, and covered lanai (patio). This is a peaceful, quiet, remote place where you'll sleep to the sounds of the ocean waves and wake to the sounds of songbirds and swaying palm trees in the tradewinds. The pool is just steps around the building from your lanai. There is one unit upstairs which is also a separate vacation rental (not mine) so depending on the guests, you may hear footsteps. We have quiet hours and an on-site property manager in unit 73 if there are any problems (it's rare, as you'll see in my reviews). You'll enjoy the new 55" Samsung 4K Smart TV with cable tv and apps. High speed wireless internet is included. The Japanese style tatami table and chairs are indoors and the bistro height dining table and chairs are outside on the covered lanai. Included: refrigerator, two burner electric cooktop (older but functional), microwave, rice cooker, blender, toaster, manual juicer, drip coffee maker, French Press coffee maker, coffee grinder, portable countertop oven (not fancy, but functional), pots and pans, beach umbrella, snorkel mask, insulated bag, ice chest, and large towels. Washing machine is currently out of service pending delivery of a part; dryer works. There is a coin/debit machine in a small building in the parking lot for $3/machine. Quiet hours from 9pm-8am. There is no heat or a/c because it's not needed (it's always between 65-85 degrees and if it's chilly or hot it only lasts a few hours till the tradewinds keep the air moving and it's lovely!) We have a ceiling fan and floor fan. If you're wanting to stay indoors with a/c on, this isn't the place for you. Most guests keep all doors and windows open (screens closed). Orkin pest control service is scheduled for the third Tuesday of each month between 9a-1pm (inspecting and servicing a unit takes only a few minutes). A guest may not cancel this service as the tropical environment requires preventative treatment for bugs and termites. You'll want to stop for groceries and drinks along the way as there are few options in the area. Kailua-Kona and Hilo both have KTA Supermarkets, Target and other big stores; Kailua-Kona also has Costco, if you're a member. Our local grocery store, Mizuno's Superette, is small and relatively expensive with limited hours. Our front door, unit 69, faces the street across from the golf check-in building and you can very conveniently unload your luggage at the door. Parking is in the designated parking lot only, per County rules. If you enter through the front door, you'll go down 9 stairs into the living space which is still at ground level, because the building is built into the side of a hill. If you enter through the lanai door on the ocean side, there are no stairs. Once inside, the entire living space is at ground level, with a screened glass door to the the walk-out lanai leading to a botanical garden so beautiful your heart will skip a beat (in a good way).
