Description
Ideal for family holidays and couples, the gîte sleeps up to 5 people across 2 bedrooms. It is just 10 minutes drive to the nearest town of Carentan. Several famous WWII beaches are nearby, including Omaha, Utah and Gold, which are steeped in history as well having miles of sand to play and relax on. Many popular French towns are also close, such as Sainte-Mère-Église, Saint-Lô, Bayeaux and Cherbourg. The space The house is well equipped with a private garden, BBQ, Wi-Fi, private parking spaces and a TV. It is only a short drive from Cherbourg and Caen ferry ports which both offer crossings from the UK. Whilst Cherbourg is the closest ferry port, Caen ferry port is approx 100km away and Le Harve is 178km, so it is also possible to drive from either of these ports if arriving from the UK. For people with a military interest, in particular of the US 83rd division, this location has a lot to offer. The house was taken by the 330th and 331st regiments of the 83rd division of the US army around the 7th July 1944 during very heavy and brutal combat. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day on 7th June 2019 a memorial to the 83rd division was inaugurated 150m down the road from the house at the location of Calvary Cross of Hotot. Some relics from the battles that took place in the local area are on display in the house. More information is available on request. Other things to note To ensure the property is as safe as possible for all guests and cleaning staff we have implemented an enhanced cleaning regime due to COVID-19. We will now be leaving a two day gap between all bookings to minimise contact and ensure the house can be thoroughly cleaned. The safety of our guests and cleaning staff is important to us.
