Youtube Video: Fred's Place, James Crowther The space Dear Future Guests- If you would like to book a LONGER STAY, please message us as I will need to open up the week days for you, between weekends. Play in the sandy shallows near the dock; swim to an island and back; explore the water in a canoe, kayak, or rowboat; or fish to your heart’s content. There are no jet skis or gas-powered motor boats on the lake, so it very peaceful and perfect for swimming and boating. Hike on our private trails. Or just gaze at the water, and curved, forested shores, and breathe in the peace and quiet and beauty. The house, built in the 1920s with antique lumber from the owner's mill, is beautiful, simple, comfortable, and spacious. The first floor has a large, fully equipped kitchen with a cozy breakfast nook. There is also a beautiful dining room with a fireplace for more formal meals and celebrations, and a screened-in porch with a large dining table and hammocks, both overlooking the water. These rooms connect to an expansive and comfy living room, with a beautiful stone fireplace, also overlooking the water. The second floor has a master bedroom with a fireplace and bathroom and water views on two sides. There are three other, good-sized bedrooms, two of which face the water, and a second bathroom with a shower and antique claw-foot tub for soaking. A large outdoor deck on the water’s edge is another great place to take in the water, woods, and ample wildlife, including turtles, blue heron, owls, and an occasional beaver. 30 minute (15 miles) drive from Worcester; 51 minutes (34 miles) from Amherst.; 1 ½ hours (61 miles) from Boston, 3 hours from NYC. Guest access Guests have access to a large deck over the water; a dock on the water; a canoe, 2 single kayaks, and a row boat; a movable outdoor fire pit that can be used on the deck or dock; and 50 acres of land to walk or mountain bike on, with trails. Two hammocks, piano, washer-dryer, and wifi in the house. Cell phone tower reception varies, depending on server. We do not have TV reception, but our 46" TV screen easily attaches to your PC or phone. Other things to note We hope you will come and experience the tranquility and beauty of our home and the surrounding area. We have many precious memories of gatherings of family and friends in this unique spot, and trust that your stay will provide the same. A few things to note: PRICING- To accommodate both small and large groups, our nightly rate includes 6 guests. Additional guests are $35/person/night. This is included in your rate when you request to book. ALL ACTIVITIES ON THE WATER AND ICE ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Please use common sense and safety precautions. Exercise extreme caution if you go on the ice. The lake is fed by a river and water flows underneath so the thickness and strength of the ice can vary unpredictably. While this is a great place for get-togethers of families and/or friends, and alcohol is allowed, we are not looking to rent to those who are planning to have loud parties or make excessive noise. If you want to invite additional people, beyond your paid guests, to come during the day or evening to visit but not stay over, you need to get permission from us, and there may be an additional fee. Please read the house manual before your stay. Guests are welcome to use the boats. Wipes and sanitary items should not be flushed in any of the house toilets. There is no smoking allowed in the house and we also do not allow pets. FYI, if you are allergic, our dogs and cats do sometimes stay there. We reserve the right to ask people who are not following the rules and guidelines to vacate before the end of their stay without a refund. Most importantly, it is our family home most of which is irreplaceable and we want it to be treated respectfully. Thank you! New England forests have ticks that can carry lyme, so take precautions if you're walking in the woods; the 1/2 mile long driveway is also a beautiful walk.
