The neighborhood is very rural, so you may hear a wild rooster crowing, a neighbor’s dog barking, cattle nearby, or even a wild pig wandering through after dark. This is a cherished, rural “old Hawaiʻi” community with many longtime Hawaiian families in the area. The owner lives on-site in the main home but respects guests’ privacy and stays out of the way, allowing for a peaceful and private stay. This property is not suitable for parties, and no additional unregistered guests are permitted. It is best suited as a comfortable, welcoming home base for exploring Kohala or visiting ʻohana in the area. At sunset, cattle egrets drift mauka over the ranch lands as they return to their roosting site. During the day, you may spot the endangered Hawaiian hawk (ʻio) soaring overhead.
