Kihei is a quaint little seaside town on Maui's southwest shore. It has the most desirable weather on the entire island and is a very popular tourist destination. It is loaded with everything you will need, from shopping and beaches to watersports, dining, and entertainment. Kihei has it all and is centrally located for other excursions you will want to do on Maui. People love staying in Kihei. We are close to the highway and about 20 minutes from the airport. Barb's Beachside Bliss is conveniently located steps from Kalepolepo Beach Park. Stroll over with your beach chair and cooler to sit in the shade overlooking the ancient fish pond. Don't be surprised to see the resident turtles sunning on the rock walls. This warm and shallow area was made by the ancient Hawaiians. The large rock walls provide a breakwall. It is a large, safe, gentle swimming area enjoyed by all ages. Several Hawaiian canoes are kept on this beach. I love the sunrise paddle that leaves the beach at 7 am. three times a week. The hour paddle offers you the opportunity to chat with local paddlers, a serene experience, and of course, the rising sun peeking over Haleakala as the sunrise song is sung in Hawaiian. The Hawaiian Whale Sanctuary is right next to the beach. Take time to visit the very informative Center and talks twice weekly. Although it focuses on whales, it also has information on turtles, dolphins, seals and many of Maui's ocean creatures. Walk to the right of the Center and you are now on one of Maui's longest beach..Sugar Beach. When the wind is perfect, the ocean is alive with colorful kiters and wind surfers. Enjoy their stunts as they rise above the waves. As you enjoy your beach walk you will pass another canoe club and a local style gathering of stores including a local market for fresh Apple bananas, papaya, pineapples, a bakery, the ABC for almost anything, and if you need a cool treat... the best shaved ice on the island! All this is an adventure from your door.. no car needed ....true BEACHSIDE bliss. If you turn left from the complex, and walk along the beach, you will come to a 10 court pickleball drop-in courts, 2 tennis, and a most beautiful grassy park called Maui Sunset. Music concerts are on Tuesday nights. Further along the road are 3 plazas, Azeka, with great little restaurants, CVS, Times, post office and many other services. And don't forget Maui's amazing sunsets. Take your camera and an evening drink and once again enjoy living beachside. We know you, like us, will fall in love with Maui and our cozy unit. KIHEI offers an exciting nightlife of restaurants, bars, dancing and shopping, which is only a few miles down the road. It is home to the busy Kam beaches with surfing, stand up paddle board lessons and tourist action. Enjoy KIHEI and come home to the peacefulness at The Surf! We recommend having a car to see all that Maui has to offer. Or book a pick up at the door tour.You can also get around via scooter or bicycle if you choose. There is a bus stop right in front of the complex and "The Maui Bus" runs from early morning until about 9:00 pm. For the walkers, our favorite plaza is only a short 15-minute walk. You can walk south on the beach to 8 free pickleball courts and the Azeka Plaza. You'll find a Longs Drug Store, Times supermarket, and many restaurants and service stores. You will also find easy access to Shuttles and Taxis. Uber and Lyft have a solid presence here as well. Parking is so convenient! We love being able to park steps from the unit door..no stairs to climb! Forgot your sunscreen...your hat...a few steps and life never was easier! Book in a monster complex and you'll soon know what I mean. A car wash area is located on the south side of the complex parking lot. Clean, modern laundry room with over 20 machines. $2.50 wash, $3 for 1 hr dry. Can pay through app, or quarters. Tip...pack some pods(solid container) and dryer sheets. Terrific buses run to all major towns..on time. $2 OR $4 all day. Stop in front of complex. Schedules available on line..Maui Bus. Smoking is not allowed inside the condo. There are designated smoking areas on the property. You will find them in the far corners of the parking lot.
