Description

Welcome to your private oasis on our rural homestead, nestled among flowering hibiscus, ti plants, and fruit trees. Step inside this one-of-a-kind ohana, crafted from reclaimed local wood, whip up island-inspired meals in your fully equipped kitchen, drift into slumber on a luxurious king-size bed, awake to gentle ocean breeze, and savor vibrant sunsets from a private lanai. Discover authentic Hawai'i rhythms where heritage, nature and comfort harmonize into unforgettable retreat. The space E komo mai! Our rural homestead has the convenience and amenities you want with the seclusion you're looking for. Its location is ideal for adventurers looking to explore the entire Big Island: 7 miles to Pu'uhonua O' Honaunau National Historical Park (please visit and learn more about the Islands' native Hawai'ian culture) 7-10 miles to two amazing beaches and snorkeling (this is why you're visiting, right?) 13 miles to downtown Kailua-Kona (incredible sunsets and beverages on the water...) 23 miles to the airport (fun fact: you board and disembark on stairs on the runway) 43 miles to South Point Park (green sand beach, one of only a few in the entire world) 67 miles to Volcano National Park (you want this...) 77 miles to Mauna Kea (snow - in Hawai'i? - sometimes...) 101 miles to Akaka Falls State Park (waterfalls!) We are 3 miles from the South Kona Green Market with excellent local Hawai'ian and Asian flavors, fresh local vegetables and bread, talented artisans, and live music every Sunday morning - not to be missed! ChoiceMart grocery is ~5 miles Walmart is ~15 miles Costco is ~20 miles All are conveniently on the way from the airport. PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING: The joys of tropical living in paradise do come with some wildness in the form of insects, geckos, birds, and feline land guardians - we practice permaculture growing principles, so we welcome all of them. We have pest control service and do our best to keep the spaces clean and sanitized when you arrive. With that said, you will likely encounter wildlife (green geckos, chameleons, mongoose, moths, frogs, birds, etc.) while you are staying here. There are also three outdoor cats on the property that are skittish at first but may become your friends by the time you leave. If you are looking for more of a hotel experience with less potential for bugs and geckos getting inside the room, this might not be a fit for you. Our space is ideal for adventurous nature lovers who are comfortable with semi-outdoor living. Please note that this is a tropical paradise and our climate does not require AC. All windows are screened to prevent bugs from coming in, but some of them don't have glass. This allows you to enjoy the tropical sounds, which include rain showers, frogs, and birds. We do offer complimentary ear plugs should you want them. The evening temperatures cool quickly after the sun sets and there is a powerful fan in the room as well. We are at a ~1200 feet elevation which is considerably cooler than at sea level in Kailua-Kona and the beaches. With that said, if you would like to use the window AC unit, it is $20 per day - electricity in HI is expensive. Please let me know ahead of time and I will leave a remote for you. If you use it, please close the bedroom door and turn it off when you leave for the day. It only takes about 30 minutes to cool the bedroom. We provide fresh fruits (in season), nuts, and local coffee upon arrival to get you started. Please do not attempt to harvest vegetables, nuts, or fruits - if they are ripe, we are happy to bring them to you - just ask (they might be the very best bananas, avocados, and mangoes you have ever eaten...). If you've enjoyed mac nuts and coffee, you can purchase more to take home: $20 for half a pound of either. There is no TV or cable. WiFi is available if you'd like to stream from your own device. The water in the shower gets very hot quickly. If you turn it on to the max, it will also run out fairly quickly. Please adjust the temperature before you get in. Guest access You will have a private entrance to your secluded ohana suite. You are welcome to use the shared washer and dryer located just outside your entrance. Please exercise caution when you are walking. Because of lava rocks, hiking shoes/boots are a must on the Big Island, and most areas of our homestead are not accessible. If you would like a tour of the property and learn more about the history of this amazing area, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you. Please do not attempt to harvest vegetables, nuts, or fruits - if they are ripe, we are happy to bring them to you - just ask. Other things to note You will have a private entrance to your ohana suite as well as your own parking space. Please exercise caution pulling in and out of the driveway. You are welcome to use the shared washer and dryer located just outside your entrance. We grow much of our own food using permaculture principles. Please do not attempt to walk the rocky property or harvest nuts and fruit - we are happy to share and bring it to you - just ask. We have been hosting for many years now. Our goal is to make your stay as flawless as possible and help make this one of the most memorable trips of your life! We live here and are just a text or phone call away. If there is something you need or want prior to or during your stay (like an extra blanket, a cup of flour, a toothbrush, or a day trip recommendation) please do not hesitate to ask. Mahalo nui loa!
