These walk up rooms on the third floor of our 1875 Victorian have been newly and carefully designed to host you. With 900 square feet the space is an excellent base from which small groups and families can explore downtown Salem and the maritime North Shore from Newburyport to Marblehead. We are a 12 minute walk or 3 minute Uber from the attractions of downtown Salem (0.68 miles) and 0.5 miles from the Salem train station with its convenient access to Boston via 25 minute scenic train ride. The space Each spacious bedroom has vaulted ceilings, uplighting and carefully revealed original woodwork, one with a king bed, one with a queen. A high end mattressed rollaway cot and a queen air mattress are further available to you. The living area is filled with natural light via skylight and lookout slider and revolves around the 19th century chimney. On the third floor, the feeling is of being perched in the trees. For the architecture curious, an old brick Victorian fire station beckons the eye from across the street - slate roof, copper flashing and plunging angles. Heed the invitation to quiet or conversation at our table for 6 or in the cushioned seating area. Login to all your favorite streaming services on the 65" Roku TV, which will automatically sign you back out on the checkout date you enter. The kitchen is spacious with ample counter space, plenty of storage for your provisions and an adaptable lighting design, suited for the full bustle of meal prep or a cozy, dim late night snack. The bathroom is designed to mimic a spa in miniature with an expansive shower, two simultaneous shower heads-rainfall and hand held--wraparound LED lighting and a comfortable tile perch. Carefully selected bodywash, shampoo, and conditioner are at your disposal and getting ready is a breeze with the backlit dimmable mirror. If you're looking for fresh air, our choice is often Cabot Farms park nestled in the trees a half mile away. Comes complete with a basketball court, play equipment and quiet green space adjacent to a scenic golf course. McGlew Park with a baseball field, play equipment, and a walking path ringed by a small granite outcropping perfect for a quick scramble, or waterfront Furlong Park with tennis courts and panoramic views of the bridge and the train station across the bay are other local favorites. Lastly, just steps away are the winding paths of Greenlawn cemetery, ideal for taking in enormous old growth trees, garden ponds and fountains, a picturesque 19th century chapel, or birdwatching on a jog or an amble. Guest access The whole third floor apartment with dedicated entrance, is yours. Parking: There are two free spots in front of the house that are first come first serve. Often taken through the weekend, more often available on holidays and during week days. Still, off and on available even on weekends. But there is always multiple spaces open across the street on the road that runs perpendicular to our street and is within 30 seconds or a minute walk of our front door. There is also a fire hydrant restricted space that serves as a great loading unloading zone a few steps from the front stoop. Other things to note Note: We live on a busy, but low speed limit road. During the day traffic noise mostly recedes into the background. I am a grad student and find no issues with quiet study and video calls. The road noise becomes noticeable only occasionally. To ensure sleep is restful we have supplied each bedroom with the white noise machines that we use in our family and that we have found to quite effectively block any such noise. We installed sound proofing above and beyond code between these loft rooms and the home below where my family lives. We are gratified by reports from guests that they generally did not hear our primary aged children. On any occasions they did, it was faint, temporary, unobtrusive. Still, sound from our primary-aged children may occasionally be audible. Know that we work to minimize such occurrences.
