Lovely bedroom/ living room combo, large bath, well-appointed kitchen, sleeps 2. A/C is available in the bedroom / living room "studio". (options in the Airbnb description were "Portable" or "Central". The condenser is central and feeds to a unit on the wall opposite the bed. There is also a ceiling fan.) NON-smoking property. Pet free. (Also see ARTIST'S HOME: Spectacular View Above KONA, our home upstairs, available in summer months only.) TAX: Hawaii requires that hosts collect and pay the 17.962% tax on all vacation rentals. Airbnb collects the tax as part of your booking (along with the rental fee, cleaning fee, and service charge/booking fee from Airbnb). You pay the entire amount with a credit card. Airbnb charges the service fee on the rental and cleaning fees only. Airbnb does not add any fee to the tax. Come home to this spacious and comfortable ohana (in-law unit) with garden views and its own entrance. Lounge in the large studio (bedroom-sitting room combo), fully furnished with pillow-top king bed, glass-top table and chairs, recliner, TV with expanded cable, and free wireless internet access. We remodeled the ohana; walls are creamy yellow w. white trim, decorated with host John Burns' art. Large bathroom has slate shower, shelving, and lots of fluffy towels. Full kitchen is well-equipped with everything you need to create fabulous meals when you don't feel like dining out, and its conveniently stocked with basic foods, spices, & condiments. We remodeled the entire kitchen in our ohana in March 2019. Due to zoning regulations there is NO stove. However, there are still plenty of options for food preparation and cooking. We do have the following: Microwave for convection cooking. Electric tea kettle to boil water. Electric fry pan for cooking. Electric rice cooker/steamer for cooking rice and steaming vegetables. Electric toaster oven (large) that toasts bread and can bake a chicken or pizza. Electric toaster. George Forman grill. Electric citrus juicer. Electric coffee grinder and mill for grinding coffee. Electric coffee pot. Electric blender. Electric wok for stir fries, etc. Electric griddle for frying eggs, bacon, etc. Outdoor gas grill with two burners for grilling meat, fish, and vegetables. You can also cook on the gas grill as desired. Please let me know if this will work for you. If you require a stove our ohana is not a good fit for your vacation stay. We want you to have a wonderful stay. Awake to the sounds of tropical birds. Sip Kona coffee in comfy chairs at your glass-topped table on the patio outside, surrounded by palms. Pick tropical fruits from the garden in season (papaya, lemon, star fruit). A comfortable elevation at 1000', great for relaxing after trips to the beach or town. A short trip to everything, yet a world apart in a lovely neighborhood setting. Off-street parking, washer-dryer. Boogie boards, fins, chairs, umbrellas, cooler, beach towels are provided. Affordable, with Breakfast in Your Time Zone: Our ohana is a fantastic value. Why settle for a cramped hotel room or studio or a 'Continental breakfast' when you can enjoy a great, affordable ohana (in-law unit). Since you may be coming from the Mainland, and might be hungry long before we awake, we provide you with plenty of goodies, available when you're ready to eat, like granola and almond milk, Kona coffee and Hawaiian teas. You are welcome to pick star fruit, lemons and papaya from our trees in season. (Not always available.) Free use of the washer/dryer; laundry supplies are provided. We fell in love with Hawaii because of the Aloha spirit. We want others to enjoy the spirit of Aloha, too. Many of our guests have toured the island and returned to us before leaving Kona. All have raved about our comfortable, clean, affordable ohana, our home and hospitality. They say this was their favorite place to stay in Hawaii, and a better value than other places they stayed. They vow to return and to send friends. Nowhere Else on Earth - Hawaii's Unique Offerings: The Big Island, the most exciting island in Hawaii, has 11 of the world's 13 ecosystems, from snow-capped mountains in winter, towering 14,000' above the ocean, to tropical rain forests. All this on an island almost 200 miles around. Kilauea Volcano added land to the island in summer of 2018. Currently there are NO lava flows into the ocean. Star-gaze at Mauna Kea Observatory. Visit ancient heiau (temple) where King Kamehameha united the Hawaiian islands. Watch migrating whales and spinner dolphins at Kua Bay. Paddle out to Captain Cook's monument in Kealakekua Bay where the first known Europeans met Hawaiians. Meet Hawaiians, a truly diverse culture. Hula. Go to a real luau. Enjoy the sport of Ali'i (royalty), surf the waves. Swim with gazillions of colorful fish and sea turtles at Kealakekua Bay. Lie on a black sand at Punalu'u. Go coffee tasting at Kona farms. Discover your own secret treasures. Live aloha. $15/night fee for guests beyond 2 person. We live in the tropics. We have feral roosters that crow at 3-4-5 in the morning. We provide soft earplugs for your convenience. There are songbirds to greet the dawn and welcome you to the new day. There are brilliant green geckos that are fun to watch and don’t bite, but do leave droppings. Since it's the tropics, we also have bugs, ants, spiders, centipedes, etc. We have Terminex spray regularly around the perimeter and under the sinks, so pests rarely enter your space. If they cross the line of spray, they die. So except for bugs that might fly in if you leave the doors or screens open, you should not see live insects. Dogs may bark or be off lease. Walking is best if you go down 1/2 block and left onto Nana / Holoholo, a street that goes for about 20 min. before you need to turn around. Given these caveats, we will not be able to give refunds due to complaints about insects or noises. Please read our House Rules, particularly if you are squeamish about tropical bugs or noises, or are expecting a $300 - $500 resort style in a unique local accommodation. NO refunds for noise, dogs, bugs, etc. NO refunds for Covid-related issues. Free WIFI Free off-street parking a few steps from your door. Free use of washer-dryer Gas grill on lanai Beach gear: chairs, umbrellas, towels, boogie boards, fins, reef shoes, coolers Guide books: Hawaii, Big Island Revealed (several editions), books on fish, birds, hikes, beaches, flowers, etc. TV with extended cable, Netflix, YouTube Lanai (patio) with queen sofa-futon couch with view of ocean, and glass-top table for dining. Kitchen equipment and staples to prepare meals and snacks/ paper products, plastic bags, etc. We are available 24/7 via cell phone and text messages. We have wonderful cleaning staff, landscapers, property manager, and a cadre of professionals who can handle any needs that might arise. You just have to let us know, and we'll respond quickly. We live upstairs, and rent the downstairs ohana (in-law unit). When we are away for extended periods, we rent much of the upstairs as well. (See ARTIST'S HOME: Spectacular View Above Kona) Both areas are private, independent spaces. We recently installed a great sound barrier between the floors, and our Airbnb guests are generally splendid and considerate of guests. Lovely neighborhood, 2.3 miles up Hualalai from the Kona airport (KOA). Our neighborhood semi-remote, but close to everything. We are 7 min. from the airport, but we hear no noise, as it is not legal to fly over land on the Big Island (except to land and take off). No street lights to obscure your view of the stars. We are 10 min. from Costco, 12-15 min. from town and shopping, 20-45 min. from fantastic beaches. Our area is perfect for day trips in all directions! Then you come home to a peaceful setting at a comfortable elevation. The neighborhood has roosters, dogs, wild turkeys, and birds that sing loudly in the morning. If you are sensitive to noise, you might want to use the soft earplugs that we provide. (Sorry, no refunds for "noise".) We live in the tropics. There are cute geckos that may eat yogurt and papaya from your softly outstretched finger. Since it's the tropics we also bugs, ants, spiders, centipedes, etc. We have Terminex spray regularly around the perimeter and under the sinks, so pests rarely enter your space. But however much we clean it is impossible for us to guarantee a "pest-free" environment. Sorry, we cannot provide refunds if you are uncomfortable with these "pests". Dogs may bark or be off leash. Walking is best if you go down 1/2 block and left onto Nana, (becomes Holoholo) a street that goes for about 20 min. before you need to turn around. Public Transit is not practical on the Big Island. Buses run infrequently, and the nearest bus is about 2 miles away--up a steep hill. You need a car to get around and see all of the great things the Big Island has to offer. Be sure to reserve a car prior to arrival. Taxis and UBER are also available. We will email our series of "Great Places to See on the Big Island", with links to websites, maps and recommendations for great restaurants, favorite beaches and art galleries, day trips, Volcanoes National Park, etc. Send your home email address to receive these. It is not possible to copy and paste them into Airbnb email system. When we are home, we are happy to talk with you if you wish about day trips and your vacation preferences. You set the pace. It's your vacation.
