Situated on the western side of the island at a cool 1300ft elevation, this is a small cottage suitable for two people. Privacy is the key word. This is a quiet, clean, peaceful place with A/C, near the airport, town + beautiful beaches located in a safe, affluent neighborhood. After the lava eruption on the other side of the island in 2018 subsided, we are now thrilled to have the best air quality and blue skies since 2007! Suitable for 1 single person or a couple. Lovely room with sliding glass door opening to a private deck to sit and enjoy the birds and all year-round tropical climate. Keep in mind that with any place you stay in Kona, if you are at LESS than 1000 ft, it’s a hot and humid. We are at 1300 ft - just perfect. The cottage is turn key ready and self check-in. As you have seen in the pictures, it is one room with a kitchenette with dishware and utensils, sink, microwave, gas grill, ceiling fan, plus a separate bathroom with hot water shower, sink and WC. Lovely deck to sit and relax. The cottage is WiFi ready. This private, stand-alone building is always accessible without us being home. Arrival times to the cottage can be late and we don't mind it. Early arrivals are difficult for us because the cottage is so popular and we need the time to clean it. As a general rule check-in is after 3:00 pm and check-out at or before 11:00 am. We aim to be home to welcome you if possible, unless it’s late night or early in the am. If not, we will discuss a plan with you as to where to get the key. Generally we will distance ourselves from the cottage [itself] out of respect for your privacy, but we are usually home. Our primary means of communication is text, but do call us if you need to. The beauty of our cottage is that you are NOT in a “fish bowl”. We cannot see or hear you, nor will we be aware of when you come and go. It’s designed and situated to be private. We have insulated the building, so if you close the windows, it’s very quiet. Our neighborhood is safe and quiet. We have one neighbor across the driveway, but everyone else is with good distance. All properties are 1 acre big, and you can reach our street with two turns from an important connecting road. It takes 7-10 minutes to/from the airport, 15-20 minutes to "downtown" Kailua-Kona and 15 minutes to a spectacular beach. There is a convenience store called Matsuyama a few blocks away for you to get comfort food fast. Safeway is 15 minutes away. We live 4.5 miles uphill from Kona International Airport (Code: KOA) which is on the West Side of the Big Island. It takes approx. 10 minutes to get to us from the airport. You can park your car right in front of the cottage. Public transportation on this island is very limited and we strongly recommended renting a car. Hawaii island is mountainous (and large) at over 4,000 square miles. Not having a car will prevent you from enjoying the island to its fullest. Please note that if an infant exceeds the number of people allowed to book, there will be a charge as if they were an additional person. We will reach out to you after the booking is confirmed. Hawai’i island is mountainous and big. We recommend renting a car. (Bikes don’t work well here as we live at 1300 ft above sea level.) If you like hiking, remember to bring heavy-duty hiking boots, with thick, rigid soles. You will be glad you did. Also, bring a rain jacket. You will need it at some point when you explore the Tropical Rainforest. If you plan to visit the summit of Mauna Kea, bring a pair of long pants and a warm jacket. On the summit, it is quite cold in Hawaii, (sometimes complete with snow) at 13,796 feet above sea level. All paper products and linens are included. Our day usually starts around 10 am, then we are pretty much available all day and late into the night unless we are working. We do sincerely care about the quality of your stay, so please text us if you need to and we will respond ASAP. We are very grateful you booked with us and want to be good hosts. We ask that you closely abide by our 11:00 AM checkout time because the cottage is becoming very popular and we need that time in between to clean it for our next guests.
