The land was bequeathed to Damon under the will of Ke Ali’i Bernice Pauahi Bishop, grand daughter of Kamehameha I, and the last living member of the House of Kamehameha. Damon first moved from Honolulu to Moanalua in 1890, and took up permanent residence in the summer cottage of Prince Lot Kapuaiwa, who reigned as Kamehameha V. It is now open to the public where it's home to the popular Hitachi tree. A monkey pod tree that is licensed by the Japanese technology company. Also, there is a Bodhi tree that is known to have been grafted from the original tree that Siddhartha Gautama.
