Large Glacier Vacation House in Ideal Location
Cathedral ceilings and plentiful windows create a warm and inviting atmosphere in this open-concept house. Located in the historic railroad community of Essex, MT - halfway between East Glacier and West Glacier. Walking distance to dining, hiking, biking, and groomed Nordic ski trails. Less than .5 mile to Glacier National Park access at Walton Ranger Station and the Middle Fork Flathead River access boat launch. Walkable neighborhood with playground for children next door. The space This open floor plan house with 30 foot cathedral ceilings is the perfect place for a group to gather. The large, beautiful windows in the house make you feel like you are nestled in nature and light all day. The main floor has a large kitchen island, which opens into a large dining area, and a large living room with a gas fireplace. This the perfect place for everyone in your group to be comfortable lounging, cooking and eating together. Upstairs there is a large loft area, master bedroom, master bath, and lots of closet space. The loft has plenty of windows and overlooks the main floor living room. The loft provides for overflow sleeping / lounging, playing board games, or just quietly slipping away to a place to read. Starlink Wifi in the house boasts speeds of 100+ Mbs for working, wifi calling, or streaming movies. The small town of Essex is adjacent to the BNSF railroad track so you can watch trains go by from a walking bridge over the tracks. There are signs of railroad history everywhere, including a historic hotel (currently being remodeled) and renovated cabooses and locomotives. There is also an Amtrack station right in Essex that is open year-round. (This does mean that you will hear trains that run intermittently 24 hours per day. House is well insulated, but light sleepers may wish to use supplied ear plugs. ) Over the walking bridge there is access to miles of trails without needing to drive. There are bikes and snow shoes in the garage which you can use do short excursions. There are some paved roads in the immediate neighborhood that are nice for an evening stroll with the whole gang, or maybe a walk down to the newly renovated inn's bar or restaurant. Guest access You will have this entire space to yourselves. There is a separate caretaker apartment accessed via the garage. Please park on the left side of the driveway, so the caretaker can get out of the garage. Other things to note Essex is located midway between East Glacier and West Glacier, near the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. It doesn't get much better for convenience. There are two river access points upstream and 5 downstream from the house - for rafting, kayaking and fishing. You can hike into the park from the Walton Ranger Station (1 mile from the house) for free. See the maps in the house for more details about fun local hikes. Some great nearby hikes include: Aster Falls, Stanton Lake, Paradise Point, Lake McDonald West Shore Trail, Scalplock Lookout Trail, Gary Outlook Trail, Painted Teepee Peak and Cobalt Lake via Two Medicine South Shore Trail, Elk Mountain Trail, Marion Lake, Almeda Lake, Dickey Lake The property is well suited for guests of all ages. It is located in the small Essex community and has a hotel/restaurant/bar within a one block walking distance for all to visit - LOGE Camp (previously know as the historic Izzak Walton Inn Hotel). Grab your morning latte from the Loge lobby or conveniently rent sporting equipment from LOGE. Please note that this house is not meant for a large house party. There is an on-site caretaker who lives in an apartment on the property.
