Description

Spacious 1 BR apartment in a 4-unit historic Victorian mansion, built in the 1880s by the family after whom the street was named. Sunny & bright fall/winter, cool & shady spring/summer. Wood floors throughout! Queen bed in BR, living room w/ queen and full futon couches (w/ curtains for privacy); large private porch. 10 minutes from I-91, 20-25 minutes from Greenfield, Amherst, Northampton & Berkshire East. High-speed internet and cell service with AT&T (Verizon is unreliable). The space We bought a mansion! Our lovely neighbors of 25 years sold us the multi-family historic house that we had long coveted when they retired and moved to New York. We still live in our own home in town and have rented three apartments to young responsible professionals—and left one for guests. This apartment has tall ceilings, vintage marble (non-functional) fireplaces, a giant dining room, a tiny but fully functional kitchen and spacious private porch. Tons of natural light in fall/winter; in spring/summer the wildscaped yard turns the place into a woodland retreat and, along with ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room, keeps the interior comfortably cool. We provide all bed linens (for living room futon beds as well), towels and toiletries. Private fast WiFi network is not shared with any of the other units. Verizon cell service is extremely limited (but you should be able to make wifi calls)—coverage is solid for ATT and its companion carriers. You are welcome to whatever beverages and non-perishable food items that previous guests have left behind! Guest access For enjoying the outdoors you will have the large porch that is the apartment entrance. All other porches are private and connected to the other three apartments. The large yard is shared by all tenants and guests. Our tenants help maintain the property so you may see them doing yard work from time to time. In the summertime the yard has a small pond fed by a homemade aqueduct that funnels rainwater from the gutters. Not suitable for swimming, but nice for cooling your feet and laying about and listening to the bullfrogs! Other things to note Please note the yard has been "wildscaped" by the previous owners who founded a very well-known landscape design school, so while it may look unkempt the plantings are very intentional and mostly local pollinator-friendly species. High-speed internet; solid cell service with ATT and companion carriers, however Verizon is unreliable in this area. We have stayed at other AirBnBs where the hosts were very precious and specific about the number of towels and rolls of toilet paper allotted to guests—we are not like that. Please make yourself at home. We do have additional tenants so you will likely hear some normal human activity. This is also a cannabis-friendly property since cannabis is legal in Mass. We have a strict NO TOBACCO policy on the property but have no restrictions on the use of cannabis outdoors by tenants and guests. There are laundry facilities on the premises, but our tenants have a pretty solid laundry schedule so it is not freely available. However if you do need to do a load in a pinch, we can probably work that out for you.
