In addition to the lush gardens, geckos and birds, you may encounter critters like ants, spiders, and the occasional cockroach or centipede. Because ours is an eco-friendly home, we don't spray poison to control bugs. We use non-toxic control methods like vinegar/water solution in the kitchen, in addition to not leaving food out. This keeps kitchen ants to a minimum. Spiders, roaches, and centipedes are rare inside the house, but one might show up now and then. Keep in mind that if there's a rental property in Hawaii that claims to have no bugs, either they spray poison constantly or they're not telling the truth.
