Dolphin Cottage @ Kehena - near lava fields

This is a very cute 1 BR/1 bath cottage overlooking the sea - the view is fabulous from the lanai. There is a sofa bed as well, that can sleep 2 smaller framed people. Includes linen/ towels/ soap is provided. The cottage is across from Kehena Black ( bathing suit optional) Beach and close to the Pohoiki Beach, thermal ponds, lava fields. A/C in bedroom, 1G Fioptic WiFi , landline, Netflix, washer/dryer w/ soap as well. MW and toaster oven in utility room just 15 ft. from cottage. The space The Dolphin Cottage is a cute, clean & cozy place to stay with an incredible ocean view. The bed is 'hotel class' plus a nice sofa bed in the living room. This cottage is located in the beautiful ocean side community of Kehena Beach which is one of several black sand beaches in the area ( Kehena, Pohoiki Family Beach, Mackenzie Beaches, Kaimu and Kapoho Beach. ) This coastal strip is 50-60 minutes from Volcanoes National Park. The Dolphin Cottage has an ocean view from every room in the house. You get FREE 1G Fioptic WiFi, Free Netflix and Roku, phone w/ free long distance to the mainland and Canada ! This Cottage is across the street from a small black sand beach where dolphins are often seen. Ask us if you would like to swim with them ! We may be able to arrange it. The beach is down a trail across the street. Please note: the beach is not wheelchair accessible and bathing suit optional but, If you are looking for a family beach, Pohoiki is just down the road. It also has thermal ponds. Kehena Beach is a prime location (natural Hawaii) and has been the best kept secret on the island for years. It is now becoming more popular and visitors are returning. This area is a major contrast to Kona, which is known as a tourist hot spot. So, if you want a quiet, peaceful place and want to see 'real Hawaii' - this is the place for you! It is also near the recent lava flows and Volcanoes National Park - home of Kilauea and the periodic lava flows just a short distance from us. There are also Hawaiian jungles, tropical rain forests, beautiful coastal views, coastal Tide Pools down the road, snorkeling w/ spinner dolphins and the whales that migrate to the warm Hawaiian waters from Alaska in winter months. You can often see breaching whales out in the water from our lanai, just several yards off our beautiful coast . This is the place for guests who want to get away from the crowds of tourists in other parts of the island. From your lanai, you will see coconut trees swaying w/ the trade winds against a blue pacific ocean . For those of you who are seeking night time entertainment, check out 'Uncles Outdoor Hawaii Bar' if you want to sip a beer, listen to live Hawaiian music, eat great food and enjoy a farmers market at the same time. The cottage is spacious and is a comfortable . The high ceiling cottage has one bedroom w/ hotel class queen bed, comfortable sofa bed in the LR and a full bath (tub and shower). Towels, wash clothes, soap and shampoo are included. PLEASE NOTE: NO KITCHEN (per Hawaii County Regulations) but food places near by (Kalani (1 mile), Uncles Kitchen (3 miles) Kaimu Market and sandwich shop, Kaleos in Pahoa 14 miles) There is a gas & Hawaiian rock BBQ just outside which is next to the cottage. There is a MW and toaster oven located in utility room 15 feet from cottage. There is a washer/ dryer as well and laundry soap is provided. It can sleep up to 4 w/ sofa bed (firm) or full sized Futon - your choice. Kilauea Volcano is just a 45-60 minute drive. You will love the black sand beaches and lava fields here in lower Puna. Guest access For those couples w/ babies, we have 'PACK & PLAY ON THE GO CRIB' as available since we have ‘ 1’…for the little ones. We also have a washer /dryer in the utility room for everyone to use, dependable high speed 1G fiberoptic WiFi for workers on the go, landline and Roku plus Netflix. Free private parking is next to your cottage on a fenced property. We have 'well maintained bikes for rent too (includes helmet and lights) Other things to note CAR RENTALS… if you can’t find a good price on a car at the HILO airport. LAVA NEWS/Lava hikes****** VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK is open as well as Isaac Hale Park ( Pohoiki Beach and thermal Ponds) You can now drive to the Isaac Hale Park and Pohoiki black sand beaches starting at Mackenzie Park, just 6-7 miles away down our road Great local restaurants/farmers markets (i.e.) Kaleos in Pahoa, Kalapana Café (open 7am-9pm & MARKET w/ ATM & UNCLES OUTDOOR BAR ARE 3.4 MILES AWAY ON SAME ROAD. DOLPHIN ENCOUNTERS: Kehena Beach is the home of a couple families of dolphins. Many people have claimed to swim w/ them around 10am. Must be a very strong swimmer if you plan to do this.
