Description
This home is right in the center of Collingswood (NJ), a walkable and welcoming community. The house is just a half a block off Haddon Ave, Collingswood's "Main Street." You can easily walk to the Farmer's Market, the PATCO speedline/train (which will drop you off in Center City Philadelphia), coffee shops, stores, the park, places w/live music, the river, more than a dozen excellent restaurants, a brewery, an ice cream/custard/water ice shop, and more. You will LOVE this location. The space This guest room is in a brick twin house in Collingswood, NJ, a walkable community with a high speed rail system (PATCO) to Center City, Philadelphia, that drops you off within easy walking distance to historic sites. The speed line station is an easy 5-minute walk down our Main Street. If you will be here for a few days and are planning on seeing some of the attractions in Philadelphia, please let me know. I can provide you with a link to buy tickets to several popular Philly attractions for just about 1/2-price. The room has a queen sized bed, a full closet (of which half is empty for your use) and a wall of bookshelves. There is plenty of drawer space as well. There is no tv, but the house has wifi. The house and room are clean and neat. It's a pet-free and smoke-free home with central a/c and heat. In the summer, the upstairs is warmer, and in the winter cooler, than the downstairs, but there is a ceiling fan above the bed and a space heater in the room, which seem to do the trick for most everyone who's stayed here. It can be difficult to tell this on the Airbnb app, so I'll make a point of saying here that there are no "hidden" charges for the room. No cleaning fee, no extra person fee, etc. Once here, you'll be free to hang out downstairs and take advantage of anything that's there. The house has a piano, front porch, back deck, and a full kitchen -- microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, etc. There is soda and bottled water as well as snack bars and yogurt that are available to you. There is only one small bathroom in the house, so we'll be sharing that. I work from home most days, so you'll have priority re: showers and time needed in the bathroom. I'll provide all sheets, comforters, blankets, pillows, towels, etc. If you need to do a load of laundry, there's a full laundry room (and detergent) you can use. You can also use the shampoo, conditioner, and bath gel in the shower, and there's a hair dryer that you can use as well. Collingswood is a great place for a quiet get-away. It's a friendly and welcoming community, full of award-winning, independent restaurants and family-owned stores. There're several bakeries and three coffee shops, art galleries, places for live music, thrift stores, and a park all within a few blocks. Our restaurants range from pizza and sandwiches to Indian, Brazilian, Mexican, Japanese, and Italian. There's often something happening on "The Avenue," and you'll be a half-block away from most of it: Antique car shows (every 3rd Thursday, April-Oct), our Saturday morning Farmers' Market (May to Nov), Second Saturdays with art and music, Art Festivals (May and August), A Book Festival (Oct), and even a Mummers strut (4th Wednesdays, April-Aug). The New York Times profiled Collingswood in 2008. An online search should bring up the article. If you actually want to leave town (!), Collingswood is just a 10-minute train ride to Philadelphia and about an hour drive to Atlantic City (also accessible by train) and other beaches (driving required). Princeton, Trenton, and New Hope (PA) are also about an hour away by car. Collingswood is within 10-20 minutes of Cherry Hill, Voorhees, Moorestown, and Glassboro, and less than that to Cooper Hospital, and the Camden campuses of Rutgers University, Rowan University, and Camden County College. The Patco/Hi-Speedline has a map that lists some of the attractions in Philadelphia, like Independence Hall, and the location of the PATCO stations so you can see just how close you are to everything in Center City. (To find the link go to ridepatco [dot] org / maps / map . html) A round trip ticket into Philadelphia from Collingswood is just $5.20. Please note that I am listing the room as both a "private room" and as a "whole house." Regardless of which way you rent the room, in all but the most rare circumstances, I'll be able to show you around and I'm always available to answer any questions you might have during your stay (via text or phone). Please see the "whole house" listing for more information on this option. Guest access Please make yourself at home. You'll have full access to the living areas of the house, with the exception of my room and the office, and are welcome to use the washer/dryer/iron, kitchen, and hair dryer. If you need something else, please just ask. If I have it, chances are you can use it. The house has an encrypted wifi signal and you'll be given the password for that upon arrival. I have a keypad lock on my front door, so when you make your reservation, I'll ask you for a 4-digit code that's easy for you to remember. Once that's programmed in, you can come and go easily, regardless of whether I'm home and without needing to keep track of a key. I can typically be very flexible with check-in and check-out times, and if you'd like to leave your bags with me while you spend your last day out and about, that's usually fine as well. Let me know your plans and I'll let you know if I can accommodate them. During your stay I typically work from home most days and am out for several hours each evening. Depending on my schedule and the time of year, I may or may not be home at night 1-2 nights a week, but I'm always able to respond to texts and messages. My interaction with guests tends to be fairly limited, mostly because I'm usually working and guests are usually eager to explore Collingswood and Philadelphia. I do enjoy getting to know my guests and learning where they're from/where else they've been, and although that's not always possible, I am always able to take the time to answer questions, show you around the house, help you figure out the train schedule and stations, and point out things to do in the neighborhood and surrounding areas. Other things to note While Collingswood is a great town, it's also a "dry" town, which means that the restaurants don't serve or sell wine, beer, or liquor. However, several restaurants are currently selling/serving only New Jersey wines and we'll have our first independent brewery opening up in 2016 You are welcome to bring your own alcoholic beverage into any establishment. If you want to skip the hassle of bringing your own alcohol, two great pubs are about a mile from my house, in Haddon Township (and a liquor store is between the two).
