Experience Big Island aloha from your fully outfitted vacation rental house in Kaʻū, Hawaiʻi's southernmost district. ** Punaluʻu Beach (black sand, 14 mi) ** KaLae (South Point)/Papakōlea Beach trailhead (green sand, 12 mi) ** Volcanoes National Park (40 mi). Recharge back at your comfy 2-bed/1-bath homebase with expansive coastline views & starlit nights. Grill out on the cozy lanai, or prepare meals in a well-equipped kitchen. Pick fruit when in season. Nestled on a peaceful half acre near the little town of Naʻalehu, Palaoa House is a comfortable homebase from which you can explore the entire island! Inside, you’ll find a well-stocked kitchen with all the basics (salt, pepper, oils, and spices, coffee, tea) and a few other essentials. Two queen sized beds with fresh linens offer a comfortable night’s sleep. Fast wifi, games, TV w/ Roku, binoculars to scan the coastline, and local books. Outside, unwind on the spacious lanai, and enjoy the sounds of nature, the gas grill, and the coastline views. Seasonally, you can find bananas, guavas, mangoes, and papayas growing on the property. Keep an eye out for our resident ʻIo (Hawaiian hawk). Slow down, skip the crowds, plot your adventures, and soak in island life at Palaoa House! * Sleeping Arrangements: Primary Bedroom: 1 Queen Bed Second Bedroom: 1 Queen Bed * Home Features: Full Kitchen, Dining Table, Deskspace, Full Bathroom, On-site Laundry, Outdoor Seating, Books, TV + Roku, Games * Outdoor Living: Covered Lanai w/ Outdoor Loveseat & Rocking Chair, Gas Grill, Coastline Views, Garden with Seasonal Fruits, Guava, Banana, Mango & Papaya * Kitchen: Cooking Basics, Spices, Oil, Dishware, Flatware, Bakeware, Oven, 4-Burner Stove, Full-Size Refrigerator, Cookware, Outdoor Gas Grill, Drip Coffee Maker, French Press, Coffee Bean Grinder, Tea Kettle, Microwave, Rice Cooker, Toaster, Blender * Includes: Free High Speed WiFi, Linens/Towels, Beach Towels, Cooler, Ice Packs, Coffee, Complimentary Toiletries, Washer/Dryer & more! * Parking: Driveway Parking (Max of 2 Vehicles) We do suggest a high clearance vehicle for ease of access and to fully explore the area. * FAQ: No Smoking, No Pets, No Events, Steps Required for Entry * Guest Feedback: "We loved everything about this place; the view, the lush garden, and the well appointed home. Dan - February 2023 "It was a most unique experience. I loved the secluded nature of where we stayed. Definitely not a touristy feel, felt like one of the locals." Jeremy - July 2022 We value your privacy, but we also enjoy offering assistance with directions or suggestions if you'd like. We're in the neighborhood and are happy to help you get settled in upon request. Text or call with any questions. Rural island life, off the beaten path. Approx 1.5 hour drive from Kona International Airport (KOA) and 1.5 hour drive from Hilo, Palaoa House is a great homebase to explore both sides of the island. Discovery Harbour (Golf) - 5 min. Naʻalehu - 10 min. Miranda's Farms (Coffee) - 10 min. Kahuku Unit, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park - 15 min. Punaluʻu Beach - 25 min. KaLae (South Point) / Papakōlea Beach trailhead - 30 min. Kaʻū Desert Trailhead - 40 min. Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park - 50 min. From volcanic landscapes, to the beautiful beaches and lush forests, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Kaʻū! As often the case in rural Hawai’i, you may encounter feral pigs, chickens and cats. You will hear coqui frogs and roosters at times. You really need a car to fully explore the Big Island (public transportation is limited). Just the last 0.2 miles to Palaoa House is unpaved road, and there is a steep driveway into the property (steep, but accessible to all car types). High clearance recommended for adventuring around the more remote areas of the island. Rate includes GE tax (4.5%). The state of Hawaiʻi collects a Transient Accommodation Tax of 10.25% and Hawaiʻi County has a Transient Accommodation Tax of 3%.
