Unique 850 sqft one bedroom Ohana with ocean views, vaulted ceilings, full kitchen, private lanai, saltwater pool w gazebo, nestled in a stunning 3 acre estate. This ohana has a special history as it was formerly Sea West Studios, a world class recording studio that served Hawaii's premier artists (Crosby Stills & Nash recorded vocals here) who preferred to record in this incredibly peaceful atmosphere. Pele spared this oasis during the 2018 eruption, saving it for your special experience. The ohana, while attached to the main house, remains very private and secure. You'll have your own front porch, entrance and private lanaii, but the outdoor spaces are shared with my wife and me. The pool deck and gazebo are shielded from the ohana by colorful, dense vegetation. You also have a private picnic table off the lanai for outdoor dining. We value the peace and quiet of this special place, and ask that you play any music at a respectful level. The night sky here is simply amazing on a clear night. We encourage guests to hang out on the pool deck for stargazing. As our guest, you'll have access to the 3 acre estate, Including the pool and gazebo. While the pool isn't heated, we find it comfortable to swim in April through October. There are a number of places on the property where you can get away to sit privately and quietly. There is a small portable firepit available for intimate times and a large fire pit in the back for bonfires. Bonfires must be arranged and approved ahead of time and are dependent on favorable weather conditions. We enjoy getting to know our guests but we also respect your privacy so we let you initiate the conversation. We are always available to answer questions or address concerns via phone, text, email or in person. My wife and I are spritualy oriented. We spend our mornings (4:30 am to 8:30 am) in meditation and quiet kirtan (group chanting of mantras). We sometimes have friends over for kirtan and spiritual discussions. You're welcome to join us if interested in such things. We have both been vegetarian for over 45 years and strive to cause the least amount of suffering to others during the course of our stay on this planet Leilani Estates (Leilani means beautiful flowers) was one of the three premier neighborhoods in the Puna area. It's proximity to natural wonders like Lava Tree State Park, Champaign Ponds, Tide Pools, Warm Ponds, Kahena Black Sands Beach, and Pohiki Bay, combined with paved roads, large, active Community Center, beautifuly landscaped estates, and friendly people made it a very special place. However, the 2018 eruption of Kiluea Volcano which exploded out of the ground in the middle of the neighborhood on May 3rd has changed the landscape forever. With over 22 active fissures, some shooting lava fountains 150 feet into the sky, it was the most voluminous eruption in 200 years. By the end of the three month eruption, 700 homes were lost along with all but one of our recreational areas. You will need a vehicle here, nothing is walking distance and the bus system has been suspended since the Eruption. There are a number of places on the Big Island that require true 4 wheel drive (not all wheel drive) or a serious hike. Our Ohana makes a great base to explore the Big Island or to just chill out in nature.
