Landscaping is coming soon! Other community amenities such as a pool, gym and recreation areas are also coming soon under construction (will be available by fall 2023) We are always available! The town's main attraction is Makaha Beach, mainly among surfers - it's one of the most popular beach in the world. However, there are plenty of other beautiful and more calm beaches suitable for swimming and snorkeling of all levels. Every year surf events take place here, such as the Town and Country Pro, the Buffalo's Big Board Classic and the Rell Sunn's Menehune Surfing Championships. It's an ideal spot for surfers of all skill levels. Wave heights reach anywhere from 2 feet just behind the reef to 30+ feet at the so-called Makaha Bowl. Some of the biggest waves ever have been ridden here, including Greg Noll's famous ride during the huge swell of 1969 when waves were between 40 to 50 feet high. The beach is wide and is also a nice spot for sunbathing and swimming. The best area for going into the water to just play and swim is the center of the beach, where there is no reef. The waves are calmest during the summer when there may be no surf at all. The high waves usually occur in the winter months. When the surf is up, the beach is known for its strong rip currents. Then it is recommended to stay out of the water. Another popular activity at Makaha Beach is diving. The Makaha Caverns is a great dive spot featuring a series of arches, caverns and overhanging ledges, located just outside of the surfing area. But usually, diving is only possible during calm waters. Another beautiful beach nearby is Pokai Beach. This is a family beach with smaller waves and more calm waters on the left (looking out to the ocean) and some surf waves on the right. There’s an excellent beach side restaurant there called: The Beach House by 604. You can get a rental car or use ride shares. Given the serene location and amazing sites nearby, you will likely prefer to rent a vehicle. There are plenty of traditional options as well as car and ride shares available, like Turo, Hui, etc. PLEASE ASK ABOUT OUR JEEP ON TURO and we will be happy to share the link. You can get a rental car or use ride shares. Also, there is the Oahu bus, which is a great way to get around the island if you opt not to get an Oahu car rental. The Honolulu bus system is actually ranked as one of the best transit systems in the world. That’s pretty impressive with over 72 million satisfied Honolulu bus riders per year! Waikiki is about 35 miles away. North Shore is about 35 miles away. Makaha beach is a 5 min drive. The west coast of O'ahu is generally drier and it has one of the best sunsets of the island. In Makaha you'll find secret beaches and hiking trails, turtles and the sacred Ka'ena Point with giant lava rocks, monk seals, and Albatross (who mate for life and do a love dance!).You also get year around surfing, snorkeling and golfing. Catching a beautiful sunset from any of the many beaches is peaceful and often there are neighborhood kids playing around and everyone seems to know everyone.
