Very family oriented and outdoorsy. Lots of schools nearby such as Boston Latin Academy. Part of the charm of the place is the diversity. Right next door is an apartment complex with budding students, clacking away on their laptops. Every multi family building seems to have a backyard and ample parking space. You'll often see students walk on the street. It's right off Columbia Road one of the Main Streets of Dorchester, a prime location for food, public transportation, and diversity. Dorchester has had a very rich history. What's different about Dorchester in the Boston Area is the plethora of African appeal and civil rights background. Less than 5 mins walk, visit Elegance African Fashions for some true traditional African couture and patterns. A 15 minute walk to Blue Hill Ave lands you in the smack middle of the Malcom X, MLK history. Or pivot to The Grove Hall Public Library and check out some books you've been itching to read. Or better yet, pick one of the plethora of food places around the Dorchester area within 10-15 minute walk. Two favorite African food spot are little out of the way in the Dorchester/Mattapan area. They're called Safari African Restaurant and Pelloma Nigerian Cuisine. Try the famous Egusi soup at Pelloma or the Jollof rice at Safari.
