The space Welcome to ShangriLog—a name inspired by the mythical paradise of Shangri-La, celebrated for its untouched beauty, serenity, and harmony with nature. This stunning 3,000 sq. ft. waterfront log home on Bull Lake in Northwest Montana embodies that same sense of peaceful escape, offering breathtaking views of the Cabinet Mountains and the surrounding wilderness. Located just 30 minutes from Troy, ShangriLog is the perfect all-season retreat for families, couples, and groups looking to unwind, explore, and reconnect with nature. Built in 2006 by an Amish craftsman from Western Montana, this beautifully maintained home sits along 85 feet of private shoreline on the crystal-clear Bull Lake. With 22 miles of scenic shoreline, the lake is ideal for fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and boating. Whether you’re savoring a home-cooked meal in the fully equipped kitchen, curling up by the fireplace, or enjoying drinks on the deck, you’ll be surrounded by expansive lake and mountain views from nearly every room. Inside the Home The main floor welcomes you with a warm entryway and a central stone fireplace. The open-concept kitchen flows into the inviting living area and out onto a spacious deck with unobstructed views of Bull Lake and the Cabinet Mountains. Large windows throughout the home invite in natural light and showcase the surrounding beauty. While the lakeside, interior, and overall guest experience remain completely intact and beautiful, the driveway is still in the process of being restored. You may notice building materials, two parked trailers, and a truck in the area at times. The site has been professionally cleaned, tested, and cleared as safe by the fire marshal. We truly appreciate your understanding as we continue this work and believe the comfort of the home and its peaceful lakefront setting far outweigh any temporary visual impact. A True Wilderness Experience This area remains uncrowded and naturally preserved. You won’t find large resorts or commercial attractions—just genuine Montana wilderness and friendly, quiet communities. Wildlife sightings are common and may include deer, elk, eagles, moose, or even bears. Always be mindful when exploring outdoors and practice bear safety. Other things to note Just a quick note to help set expectations and make sure you’re fully prepped for your stay: Please keep loud music to a minimum—unless you’re in the mood to accidentally host a surprise family reunion with folks from across the lake. Sound really carries out here, and while the space feels remote, our neighbors on the water aren’t as far as they look. Also, bring mosquito spray. These aren’t your average backyard bugs. Montana mosquitos are bold, well-fed, and often referred to as the state bird. If you forget repellent, you might end up spending more time indoors than you planned. They’re not around all year, but in the warmer months, they definitely make their presence known. Just a heads-up: we are located in a very rural part of Northwest Montana. That means no Uber, no delivery services, and depending on your carrier, limited cell service in some areas. Plan ahead—gas up before you arrive, bring groceries, and download anything you’ll want offline. That said, this place is the real deal. You get the wild, quiet, rugged Montana experience—deer in the yard, stars for days, and a lake you can actually hear. Inside, the cabin is comfortable, clean, and fully stocked with everything you need to relax. We also leave out some snacks, bottled water, pop, and a few essentials to make you feel at home. If you happen to forget something, there’s often bug spray, SPF, or other basics available just in case. We’re glad you’re coming. It’s a slower pace out here, and we think you’re going to love it.
