The space Kona Dreams is a private retreat in South Kona, 35 miles south of Kona Airport. The Drive: A scenic drive on the highway along the dramatic coastline takes you past Kailua-Kona, to history-rich Keauhou, Kealakekua, Captain Cook, and Honaunau, through the Big Island’s fertile agricultural region, where coffee grows alongside macadamia, cacao, vanilla beans, avocado, and an endless feast of tree-ripened fruit. The Home: Enter the home and you will notice it was designed to capture every breeze. The spacious living area is equipped with a flat screen TV, media player, WiFi, games, guidebooks, and leisure reading. Comfortable furniture invites you to relax under the cathedral ceiling supported by solid ohia logs. The airy primary bedroom features a king size bed made of local ohia wood and has a separate walk-in closet, primary bath, and a private lanai. The guest bedroom has a queen bed, separate full bath and a lanai of its own. The large kitchen is equipped with everything to make enjoyable meals from scratch. The Location: The steep hillside is caressed by ocean breezes and incredible views of old lava flows and crystal waters. A swim in the ocean is just 150 yards away. Look for turtles or even a monk seal resting on the beautiful black lava pebble beach. Enjoy sitting on the shaded lanai while you watch the tropical sunset or look for breaching whales. Kaohe Bay is well known for scenic snorkeling – you will find snorkel gear, water toys, beach furniture, umbrella and cooler to enjoy during your visit. Ho’okena Beach Park and Milolii Beach Park are nearby. Grab a quick bite or a freshly brewed cup of 100% Kona coffee at Menehune Coffee. REVIEWS Kona Dreams has a new property manager, but the same owner since 2013. AirBnB guests left these reviews under previous management: Olga August 2022 The location is amazing, and the house has everything we needed! Niranjan June 2022 Great location, walk to the beach. Good amenities. Alex May 2022 Nice and secluded stay. Carley April 2022 Great off the beaten path home in a lovely neighborhood. Fall asleep to the sound of ocean waves and wake up to birds singing right outside your window. Lovely sunset views. Does take a bit to drive in to local restaurants but if you won’t mind the drive time and getting to see local sights/spots/people/etc (which we didn’t), then it’s perfect. Beach isn’t much for swimming but for cold beer and a sunset, it’s divine. Super clean and organized. Lots of neat succulent plants to look at. Good beach gear selection. Good choice for a stay in Hawaii’s Kona coast! Oksana January 2022 If you follow the guide for keeping the home cool and pest-free, you will have a great experience. Our #1 criteria, when booking a rental unit, was that there be no cockroaches in the house - we found zero. I highly recommend this location for that reason! The towels were super soft, the kitchen was well-stocked with utensils, and there was a bunch of beach gear in the garage. I’d recommend using the two showers one at a time, so that there’s better water pressure. Also, since this house was listed, the floors have been renovated, so they don’t have carpet in all the rooms. Eliza January 2022 We really enjoyed staying in this beautiful home. Clean, spacious, and generally well laid out (although, the entrance through one of the bathrooms was a bit of a surprise!). Location wise, this is a relatively rural area, not a tourist trap at all, this location is for folks who want an authentic "live in" Hawaii experience. Shopping and dining are not the top attractions. The natural environment, snorkeling, bird and gecko watching, sunsets, and roadside fruit stands are what it's all about. It was just a block away from the beach and the sunset views from the front deck could not have been better. The locals meet at the beach every night to watch the sunset- which is spectacular every night. Sunrises happen on the other side of the island, so if you are a sunrise person this is not the right side of the island for you. Note that the road getting to the house is intimidatingly steep, but our 2 wheel drive rental budget sedan could get up and down just fine- no 4 wheel drive necessary. We recommend cooking at home, the kitchen is fully equipped with pots pans, cooking utensils, plates, silverware, etc. Check the pantry and cabinets before you go grocery shopping- we found salt, pepper, cooking oils, vinegar and other condiments stocked there. If you want great Hawaiian poke bowls go to the Honanunau Poke Shop on the Main Road. The best fruit stand is across the main road from the Choice Mart in Captain Cook- the passionfruit was amazing. Great snorkeling can be found within 20 minutes drive at Captain Cook's monument (to get there it's a hefty hike or a pricy boat ride, but well worth whichever route you take) or a more crowded but also exceptional location for snorkeling is at Two Step which is next to the Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park (also work visiting if you like history and ruins). This location is also reasonably close to Volcano National Park (1.5hrs away), which makes a visit to the volcano a great day trip. Overall, we cannot recommend this spot more- we loved every moment! Greg December 2021 Very quiet and relaxed. The beach is great for playing in the waves and access to Kona and the southern part of the island is perfect. We’ll certainly return! Anna October 2021 Located in a nice quiet neighborhood. The home was very clean. It was comfortable for 4 people and supplied everything we needed for our stay. Kristofer October 2021 We loved this place so much. Had all the important amenities, and the beach access is incredible. Everything about this place is wonderful. The local roadside stands and food spots were all delightful as well! It’s about a 20 minute drive if you need to do any shopping, but well worth it for the privacy and beach access! Hailey August 2021 Beautiful home and was so close to the beach, such a beautiful view! Gerad August 2021 This place was fantastic and was definitely worth the money. Eric June 2021 Communication with the host prior to and during our stay was excellent! The location is great for being away from the crowds in Kailua-Kona and made the drives to what we wanted to see (Volcanoes NP, South Point / Green Sand Beach) a shorter drive. The location was also very quiet which made mornings and evenings very relaxing. We will be keeping this property in mind for any future trips to Hawaii! Linda Rose June 2021 Great Hawaiian themed home with lots of space. Beautiful neighborhood-Super short walk to pebbles black beach. A short hike to the right of the beach opens to a black sands beach. Nice private feel. Location is great with fun options of touring local farms and wonderful places to eat on the Hawaiian Belt Highway. Totally appreciated the binder with local information on activities etc. Greg February 2021 We loved the peace and quiet! Great access to the water. Pebble Beach is a little rough, but a fun place to snorkel and watch the sunset! Westin January 2021 Great location with a nice sunset view and 2 minute walk to the beach. Neil January 2021 Nice home, everything you need and very close to the ocean! Absolom J March 2020 This is an excellent place to spend your vacation. Has everything you need, plus a beach you can walk to and watch the sunset (be aware, though, that it's not a great swimming beach). Really was the perfect homebase for our vacation. Arne January 2020 Beautiful location with great beach and no crowds. Would definitely stay here again. Only room for two couples but good value. No phone service but free landline and good WiFi. Many great local tips and plenty of beach accessories. Bree December 2019 We love this home. The owners are an absolute delight and the location could not be more perfect. Maria December 2019 Beautiful location and home with everything you need for a peaceful get away. Cassie November 2019 Location was wonderful. Nice short walk to the beach. Pebble Beach was our favorite...so nice to not have sand on everything (who knew?). The home had everything we needed. Tracie November 2019 Kona Dreams was exactly the home we were looking for when booking a home away from home during our 13 day stay in Hawaii. My husband grew up in Hawaii and this location reminded him of how things were "back in the day". A very safe and quiet neighborhood with a very comfortable home. The kitchen is well appointed, beds are comfortable and having 2 full bathrooms and a nice washer and dryer in the home is a very nice luxury. The 2 lanais offer beautiful views of the ocean with stunning sunsets through the palm trees on the property. There are also beautiful Mango Trees on the property, which were unfortunately pow when we arrived, but earlier in the year, I can only imagine the amazing fruit that is available to you! The home does get warm during the day, but cools down nicely in the evening making for a very comfortable sleeping temperature. Pebbles Beach just a block away is a wonderful place to snorkel. Ocean conditions can vary from day to day, so be prepared for a calm day one day and a rough day the next. LOVE this home and LOVE the location! Thank you for sharing your home with us.
