Unplug and enjoy a relaxing retreat at our off-grid log cabin in the serene Montana wilderness. The cabin sits on a secluded ridge, surrounded by Forest Service land with endless recreation opportunities. You will feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life but are a convenient 15 minute drive to downtown Missoula and MSO International Airport. Montana Snowbowl Ski area is only a few miles away, offering year round activities. The space We found this one of a kind property in 2016 and jumped in head first at the opportunity to live off the grid in the Montana wilderness. The cabin was constructed in 1987, our birth year, signaling it was meant to be. Through several seasons of blood, sweat and tears we continue to make this place our own with numerous improvements to the cabin and grounds. We are constantly pursuing the challenge of minimizing our footprint. The property runs entirely from renewable energy with the recent installation of an 1800 watt solar array. Water is pumped on site and wood is used for the main source of heat. The cabin was fully remodeled with all the creature comforts one could hope to find. The ground level apartment features a king size bed, full kitchen, spacious living/dining room and bathroom with a shower. Visitors will enjoy a picturesque view into the Rattlesnake National Recreation Area through oversized windows in the bedroom and living room. Wood fired sauna available depending on the season. Beautiful sunsets can be enjoyed with a glass of wine on the deck overlooking the Missoula valley. If we are not out enjoying all that Montana has to offer we can be found living upstairs with our two sons Nash and Finn. Guest access Visitors will enjoy access to over 70 acres that the cabin sits on as well as thousands of acres of adjacent USFS land that offers hiking, biking and cross country skiing. Guests also have access to the back patio and front deck for outdoor dining. Guests have access to laundry. Please note this space is shared and we may need to access the laundry room during your stay. Other things to note We are totally off the grid and work hard to heat with wood, pump our water and sustainably produce electricity. The cabin provides all the creature comforts needed for daily living, however, visitors are asked to be mindful of water and energy consumption. We DO NOT have TV or AC. We do have two young boys and there is always potential for noise. We do our best to minimize disruptions. There is a white noise maker in the bedroom. The laundry room is a shared space. We will minimize our use during your stay but there are times when we need to access the room.
