Shortly before arrival, you get to adventure through the forest for a mile-long off-road drive into the eclectic subdivision of Hawaiian Acres. Get a feel of being a true local in the country, while being conveniently located 15 minutes from eccentric Pahoa Town, 35 minutes away from historic Hilo Town, and 40 minutes from Volcano where Pele makes her Lava-luscious appearance. **(SUV or Truck highly recommended, for 3 blocks/1 mile of unpaved road, but not required. Please refer to recent guest reviews to help you determine what vehicle to rent, 4WD NOT necessary at all, and the road is ever-changing depending on maintenance, weather conditions, time of year, and even time of day!)** My driveway is long, and if you come at night the address sign will be lit up. Park to the left on the grass. You will receive your code for the keypad lock on the front door. Enter the code provided and the door will open. Upon entry you can enter the spacious master bedroom by going up the lighted spiral staircase. The master bedroom features a king-sized bed, a UHD TV, and an incredible view! The second bedroom features a full-sized bed and a ladder leading to a twin size bed above it! If you have children, please supervise your child climbing the ladder to the twin bed. Recommended for children ages 12 and up. If you're an adult, have fun and pretend like you're a kid again! The living room has a secret! There's a hidden Alice-In-Wonderland style UHD TV that you can access via doorknob! Find the doorknob on the "ceiling" above the custom monkeypod tree hand-crafted table. Put one hand on the doorknob and the other on the board behind it with the TV in it. Twist the doorknob while holding the other part and gently lower it to reveal the TV! Gently put it back up when not in use. If you’re lucky, you will have a clear night where you can see a sky saturated with stars and the Milky Way! HINT: at night you can drive to see the orange glow from the volcano if you're lucky and take a short walk to see actual lava in the caldera! Or you can go towards Pohoiki to have ultimate relaxation in the volcanically heated thermal hot ponds embedded in the recent lava flow or tucked away in the jungle. Please do not use the dishwasher, or the washer/dryer, as that is for personal use for my professional cleaners during turnovers. Please come down from the stairs to the left side and around my home for generator use, which is under the main entrance stairs. This is rugged Hawaii!! The culture is very friendly and you will often see neighbors waving at you and using the *shaka* sign, which is the "hang loose" sign of friendliness!! Centrally located about 30 mins from Hilo, 40 mins from Volcano, and 20 mins from Pahoa town! Groceries, gas, and restaurants close by--especially in Pahoa's new Puna Kai Shopping Center! ***IMPORTANT-- READ BEFORE BOOKING*** There is a mile of unpaved, off-road, gravel road that is not maintained by the county. One mile is a few blocks to my home. SUV or Truck HIGHLY recommended! A standard car is not a good choice for my home. Unfortunately I cannot control the road, as it is not my personal road, but every owner in this extremely large subdivision owns the roads. Half of the residents want all roads paved, and half don't. Mostly, this is a retirement subdivision, and people tend to like things the way they are and are resistant to change. I am one of 10% of owners who pays my road dues to upkeep the road. There is constant maintenance with use of gravel and leveling, but storms and heavy rain can wash that away a bit. But other than that mile, everything else is paved. Thank you for understanding and having compassion for what I cannot control, but very much wish I could! I have a long driveway!
