Built in Bali and re-assembled here in Hawaii, the Bali House is over 1900 sq. ft of indoor living space and over 2050 sq ft of out living space on a 9500 sq. ft fully fenced, gated and beautifully landscaped Estate and relaxing 4 person Hot tub under a Gazebo. It features an open concept living space with 3 separate Bali roof pods that interconnect giving you amazing ocean views from almost every room. The Bali house features a Full Kitchen, Living room with Balinese daybed, Dining, Laundry room area, back patio for BBQ. The interior is made from exotic hardwood Merbau, Cedar & Teak w/ Hand carved Teak support posts and open beam teak ceiling. We are fortunate to have a micro climate that is sunnier and dryer than Hilo with amazing trade winds right off the coast. A typical day at Kehena will be partly sunny with the occasional brief shower. Temperatures range from the 70’s to 80’s year-round. Most homes in the area including ours have NO AIR CONDITIONING, and you will likely find you don’t need it! Just keep the fans circulating and windows open. Mold and rust are constants in any oceanfront home. While we do our best to nip it in the bud, please do not book our home with unreasonable expectations and do not expect refunds on that basis. The Bali was build in Bali and imported to Hawaii on the Puna coast. We have monthly pest services and do our best to keep it clean. But, you will see bugs, wildlife, and many geckos. Generally, we do not have mosquitos because we are right next to the ocean. The geckos eat bug larvae and keep the house clean (even if they do poop). Please do not be alarmed by the occasional gecko droppings in and around the house. We are 100% dependent on rain water stored in a catchment tank. We have well-maintained water filters, Bathing and cooking with this water is safe. Please bring your own drinking water if you are not use to drinking catchment water! PLEASE HELP US CONSERVE WATER, especially in dry spells. Enjoy our Hot tub and the beach. Water refill can take 2-3 days and cost $500. Other things to note Farmers market in Pahoa, Kehena beach just across the street 150 ft away down the cliff. Pahoa is about 20 min away for groceries, restaurants, shopping. post office, urgent care, surf shops and more. Hilo is about 40 min away. Kalapana is 2 miles away with a mini mart, Uncles Kava bar and Wed. night Live Music and Farmer's Market and Kaimu beach. We are on the Red Road or coastal road of 137, where you can find, Cliff fishing, Pohoiki Black Sand Beach Park , Mackenzie State Park, Lava Tree State park and beautiful scenic coastal drive. We have friendly geckos in and outside the house, nothing to worry about they love to eat bugs and are considered Good Luck! We also have Coqui Frogs or tree frogs outdoors that make noise at night that sound like birds singing. They are not poisonous a size of quarter they also eat bugs as well. Note: We are in Hawaii and bugs are a normal encounter both inside and outside here in the tropics. Other things to note Please read the full house rules prior to booking. By booking, you agree to follow those rules, risk eviction, forfeit all booking fees and deposit if they are broken. LIABILITY WAIVER: By booking the home, guests agree to waive all host liability for injury or death related to use of equipment (swim spa, grill, gas appliances), and assume all risk for use of grounds or facilities. In particular, we urge guests to exercise their own caution against falling coconuts, tripping hazards, and effects of rust, mold, volcanic fog or other environmental hazards. If this waiver is not agreeable, the booking is void, the guest must cancel immediately and notify the host. CLIMATE AND AC: Puna is a tropical climate on the wet side of Big Island. We reserve the right to charge guests half of the approximate cost of emergency water tank refill ($250) if water resources are exhausted during their stay. NOTE ON SAFETY: Puna is known to be the "wild east" of Hawaii. It is a colorful and generally safe place. However, we advise guests to always leave the house locked and never showcase valuables, especially near Kehena beach.
