Private entry & parking in front of entry. If you were looking for a great deal in Central Maui, you’re in luck as the rates offered for those who book now are very competitive to welcome you to get away to one of the safest places to escape in the world! Summary Clean and cute 1BR apartment in historic old-hawaii-style home, tucked away in residential Wailuku Town. This home dates back to the plantation era and has been updated while lovingly retaining its historic character. Central Maui, ample private off-street parking. Details This historic and updated plantation-era Wailuku Town apartment is absolutely perfect for adventurous visitors who are looking to escape the touristy trappings of South and West Maui. A private, comfortable, safe and central home-base to adventure all over our wonderful island. The large bedroom has a king bed, a queen sofa sleeper, and a wall-mounted satellite TV that swings out to be watched from bed, or the sofa. There is also a cute little desk nook if you have some work to do, and air conditioning should you desire it on the nights our cool tradewinds stop blowing. The cute kitchenette has everything you need to make your meals, and a cute rustic corner table set in windows to enjoy them. The many windows were smartly positioned, well before air conditioning even existed, to allow the sweet tropical tradewinds to blow optimally though keeping it lusciously cool and comfortable. The Wayfinder is a completely private rental attached to a larger home. The fifth generation Maui family that owns the home lives in the rear portion of the home. They are super sweet, friendly, and know a thing or two about Maui! That said they’re respectful and nonintrusive by nature, and always respect their guests privacy. Guests are always welcome to reach out if anything is needed, we are available by phone or email and all contact information will be provided! Location Located in the residential area of old Wailuku Town, just ten minutes from the airport. This location is perfect for folks who plan on exploring all around Maui (something I suggest no matter where you stay!) It’s also worlds away in attitude and experience from the touristy hotels and resorts. Wailuku is the capital town of Maui; completely non-touristy and down to earth. Compared to mainland cities, Wailuku is a sleepy laid-back small town, a throwback to much simpler times. In recent years the business area of Wailuku has seen a resurgence, with an eclectic array of hip shops and restaurants opening up alongside old-time Maui standards. Examples of what you might find strolling around Wailuku: hip coffee shops, local clothing boutiques, hair salons, all different manner of inexpensive restaurants that aren’t on the tourists radar, antique stores, island-style pawn shops (with items like surfboards and Hawaiian antiques and jewelry you wont find in the resorts), a funky record store, yoga studios, the Maui Academy of Performing Arts, a smoke shop, historic Iao theater, a sushi bar, art galleries, a crystal shop, an authentic tiny New York style pizza joint – and so much more! Bonus: the first Friday of every month there is a block party where folks come from all over Maui to hang out, listen to live music, eat and browse the local vendors wares. Moving outside the town, you’re also situated just a couple minutes before where the amazingly picturesque West Maui Mountains split to open into historic and sacred Iao Valley. Iao Valley is just a few scenic minutes by car and has hiking trails (Kepaniwai Park just between here and Iao Valley is a great spot for a picnic.) The North Shore of West Maui starts close to here as well, with scenic vistas and less crowded hikes like the Waihe’e Ridge Trail. If you’re interested in learning more about Maui and Hawaiian history and culture, the Bailey House Museum is also close by and holds a large collection of photographs and Hawaiian artifacts that range from traditional stone tools to Duke Kahanamoku’s surfboard. (Bailey House is also a great place to score some unique gifts that are actually made in Maui.) 15 minutes in another direction takes you to the Maui Ocean Center and the Maalaea harbor for snorkel boats and whale watches. You’re also five miles from Maui Tropical Plantation and and you’re just 15-20 minutes from the resort areas of Kihei & Wailea. Half an hour will get you to West Maui’s Lahaina Town. You’re also closer to a Road to Hana adventure, and also to Haleakala than the resort areas are. For wind and kite surfing, and downwind enthusiasts, Kanaha, Kite Beach and Kahului Harbor are just minutes away. An incredible value for your travel dollar when you consider what resort lodging costs – and the unique value added experience and authenticity that comes alongside is invaluable. The home is located in Wailuku Town, plenty to see and do on foot. That being said, Maui is so diverse and spread out, so we do recommend renting a car to access the attractions all over the island! *Please Note: There is an additional 17.41% Hawaii State Tax charge not included in the airbnb quote. You will be sent a separate invoice outside of the airbnb system after you book in order pay this amount due. This amount is non refundable. By law we are required to collect this tax and at this time airbnb does not have a way to charge state tax directly. Thank you!
