We designed this home to have everything we wanted in a tropical paradise; room to relax, swim and the opportunity to explore the amazing Big Island. The common areas are spacious and relaxing with an easy flow indoors and out. The bedrooms provide private sanctuaries for guests after a full day. The house was designed to take full advantage of the spectacular ocean views and enjoy the morning sunrise. Guests are welcome to enjoy the bananas and papayas growing in the garden. There are numerous growers’ markets in and around the quaint town of Naalehu to explore and stock up on fresh fruit, veggies and internationally award-winning coffee unique to the Kau district. The kitchen has every convenience you might need however it's best to stock up on groceries in Kona before heading to the house. There is a Costco in Kona and markets in Hilo if you're coming that way. The pool is beautifully designed, great for lap swimming though it can be a bit brisk mid-winter. An outdoor grill is provided and the lanai is the perfect place to enjoy a meal with the pool and ocean as a backdrop. The trade winds come through most days providing lovely breezes and the birds are quite entertaining, singing every morning and afternoon. There are numerous spots in the garden to settle in and enjoy a good book, do a little yoga or visit with family and friends. We look forward to having you enjoy our home as much as we do. Guests have full access to the entire home except a locked owner's store room. Suzanne is our wonderful property manager. She will be in touch as soon as your request is received to make sure everything is ready for your visit. She lives just a few blocks away and is a wealth of information having lived on the big Island for many years. Our home is situated in Discovery Harbour at the southern tip of the Hawaiian Island chain. It is equi-distant from both Hilo and Kona on the east and west sides of the Big Island of Hawaii. It is beautifully remote here with many fabulous adventures a short drive away. These include hiking through a variety of eco-systems, day trips to the Black Sand Beach to watch turtles nesting, swimming and snorkeling at Hookena Beach where dolphins frequently come into rest, Honoapu Beach Park and old pier, the longest strip of unbroken coastline in the Hawaiian chain just beyond the town of Naalehu. Volcano National Park is 30 miles up the coast and not to be missed. You may want to explore the Tibetan temple in Wood Valley about 12 miles away. The Dalai Lama visited there and the monks are always happy to welcome visitors. Don't miss any of the wonderful coffee farms growing world famous Kau coffee. Both Hilo and Kona provide a change of pace from the tranquility of Discovery Harbour with an abundance of sights, restaurants and shops. You'll find several tour books at the house and you may want to plan your days a bit in advance....or not! This is your time to enjoy! You'll definitely want to rent a car in advance of your arrival. It is about a 90 minute drive from Kona and we recommend you do some grocery shopping at Costco or Safeway before you leave Kona. The drive to the house is very scenic and winds along the coastline. Wifi is excellent and there are several spots both indoors and out for laptop work, zoom calls or entertainment.
