Pretty apartment & carriage house w/spa near beach

Description

The Captain's Quarters & Sea Glass carriage house face each other across their private patio at the Bursley Manor, a lovely 1670 farmhouse on an acre of grounds in West Barnstable. They offer 3 bedrooms, 3 sleep-sofa lounges, a kitchen, 2 baths & a laundry. Sea Glass was the original carriage house, and the Captain's Quarters are a separate wing to the Manor. Families love this central Cape location with pond views on Rte. 6a for its hot tub, sauna & cold plunge, just 2 miles from Sandy Neck! The space The Captain's Quarters and Sea Glass carriage house are separate units that face one another over their private patio at West Barnstable’s Bursley Manor, the farmhouse John Bursley built in 1670 for his thriving Maple Spring Dairy. Together, the two units offer three bedrooms, three lounges with sofa beds, a kitchen, two baths, and a laundry room – perfect for two families traveling together! The Captain’s Quarters is a charming apartment added as a wing to the Manor in the 1800s. On its ground floor is Jacques Cousteau, the light and airy master suite. It has a queen mahogany sleigh bed, a vaulted ceiling with a skylight, a walk-in closet, a secretary desk, and a lounge chair and ottoman in front of the large TV. Jacques Cousteau's en-suite bath features a double-sink vanity and a lighted shower that's big enough to rinse off several kids at once after a day at the beach. The bedroom's French doors open to the east patio. Adjoining Jacques Cousteau is a bright and spacious lounge with a queen sofa bed and a closet, making it a nice extra bedroom if needed. The lounge features two Queen Anne chairs, an expandable coffee table where kids love to do puzzles and play games, and a large desk. The lounge also has French doors to the patio and stairs leading to the second floor. At the top of the stairs, turn right and you're in your private laundry. Turn left instead and cross the catwalk and you're in the second bedroom - cute and cozy Crow's Nest. With a twin bed and two double bunk beds, it's great for up to five kids. They love the catwalk, the sloping gables, a snacks fridge, and their own TV! Decor in the Captain's Quarters is fresh, nautical, and welcoming. All beds are furnished with high-quality linens. There are two refrigerators - an apartment-sized version with a freezer in the master suite, and the snack fridge in Crow's Nest. There's a microwave in Jacques Cousteau, Illy and Keurig coffee machines in the lounge, and AC units throughout. Exit the Captain's Quarters via either set of French doors, and you're on the east patio. Across it is Sea Glass, the original post-and-beam carriage house at the Bursley Manor, also added in the 1800s. Today, it’s a soothing tiny house, decorated in sea-glass blues, greens, and silver. The first floor, accessed by sliding glass doors that open onto the patio, offers a double pull-out sofa in front of the wood stove. A desk is tucked away by one of the windows, in front of an antique wooden spiral staircase salvaged from a local church. Behind the staircase is a pub table for four in a dining nook and the kitchen, complete with dishes and cooking equipment, a full-sized fridge and sink, and an apartment-sized stove and dishwasher. The bathroom with its shower is beyond the kitchen. Climb the spiral staircase to a sleeping nook with a double bed. That opens onto a television lounge with a coffee table, a wingback chair, and another double pull-out sofa. The lounge leads onto the balcony, just right for evening cocktails for two as you watch the sun head westward. The east patio is where guests in both units get together. There is seated dining for 23, a charcoal grill, a gas grill, two gas fire pits, and a chiminea. Beyond the patio to the south is the spa area. Shared by all guests on the property, it has a hot tub for seven, a far-infrared sauna for four, a cold plunge for individual use, and indoor and outdoor relaxation areas. The Bursley Manor is set on an acre of grounds that are shared by all guests on the property. There are flower beds and a lawn that's perfect for outdoor games and sports, and container gardens from which you are invited to harvest fresh herbs and produce. West Barnstable is a charming, centrally located village that is the ideal jumping-off point to all of Cape Cod's many attractions. Kayak to Cape Cod Bay on Scorton Creek, go whale-watching from Barnstable Harbor, or stroll along Sandy Neck's pristine, six-mile beach. Whatever you like to do, Sea Glass and the Captain's Quarters are a great place to start! Guest access The Captain's Quarters and Sea Glass carriage house are yours alone, and share no interior space with the Farmhouse. Access to the Captain's quarters is mainly through the two sets of French doors that open onto the east patio. There is a west-facing front door to the apartment that opens onto the south patio. That patio is reserved for guests in the Farmhouse. Guests in the Captain's Quarters may use the front door, but only to pass through to the parking area, where five spots are allotted to guests in the Captain's Quarters and Sea Glass. The spa and the acre of grounds at the Bursley Manor are shared by all guests in the Farmhouse, the Captain's Quarters, and Sea Glass. I encourage my guests to use the areas of the grounds closest to their accommodations. Other things to note Welcome to Sea Glass and the Captain's Quarters! Below are some notes that will help you and your group stay safe and happy during your stay. Using Fire at the Bursley Manor Please keep in mind that the Bursley Manor is a wooden structure, the main part of which is more than 350 years old. It is imperative to be careful at all times with the use of fire on any part of the property. Please only use the wood stove in Sea Glass if you have used a wood stove before. If not, there are space heaters on both floors that do the job perfectly on chilly days. There is also baseboard heating in the bathroom that you can turn on. There are two gas fire pits and a chiminea on the east patio. There are also gas and charcoal grills. Please extinguish all fires of any kind at the property before retiring at night or departing the grounds for any length of time. There should never be an unattended fire at the property. Note: there are fire extinguishers installed in most rooms throughout the units. Firewood is located on both sides of Sea Glass. Please help yourselves. You are also welcome to take firewood to the beach for beach fires. Just stop by the Sandy Neck gatehouse after 4 p.m. and buy a $5 permit. Propane tanks are attached to the gas grill and fire pits. You may use any gas you find in them. If a tank is empty, you are welcome to refill it at your expense, but you must leave all tanks at the property upon your departure. The same applies to charcoal - if you find it in the east patio chest against the north wall of the sauna house, you are welcome to use it. If there isn't any, please purchase what you need. On the subject of fire, it must be noted that the Bursley Manor is a NON-SMOKING property. I'm sorry about this, as I know it's a challenge if you are a smoker. To underscore the importance and necessity of complying with my insurance company's stipulation, I have implemented the following rule: Evidence that members of a guest party are smoking or have smoked at the Compound will result in a fine of $500 being charged to the booking party. Cooking, Dining, & Paper Goods In the kitchen you'll find spices and a varying supply of staples and condiments – use anything you like and leave anything you like as long as it's not open fresh goods or leftovers. Picnicware is in white tall chest drawers in Sea Glass. Both the apartment and carriage house are stocked with an initial supply of paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, facial tissue, etc. If you run out of the supplies provided, you are responsible for purchasing whatever you need to last you for the rest of your stay. There are four different kinds of coffee machines in Sea Glass and the Captain's Quarters, and a good selection of small kitchen appliances atop the tall chest in the Sea Glass kitchen. If there's something you need, please ask me, as I'm likely to have it. Pets at the Bursley Manor The Bursley Manor is pet-friendly, provided that you discuss with me before your arrival your plans for bringing your pets. The one-time charge is $100 per pet for stays of three days or longer. Shorter stays are charged at the rate of $35 per day. If you plan to be absent from the property for more than four hours, I can walk your well-behaved pets or arrange to have them walked for an hour at a charge of $35 per pet. Pet accidents inside the house result in commensurate cleaning fees. Extra Guests, Beds, & Pack ‘n Plays There are 2 Pack 'n Plays with sheets, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Extra sheets for these are in the chest under the television in the Jacques Cousteau bedroom. Extra-bed options available include single-bed roll-aways and double futons that can be placed on bedroom floors. Extra guests over the age of 14 will incur an additional charge of $50 per night, and their stays must be arranged with me in advance. Guests not specified in a booking party are considered trespassers. Beach Supplies Beach supplies, sand toys, and outdoor games are in the white chest backed up to the south side of the stockade fencing around the spa area. Beach towels are inside the cloth beach bags hanging in bedrooms and bathrooms, with extras in the light blue chest next to the desk in the Jacques Cousteau bedroom. All of the beach equipment and towels are in used condition. If you prefer new equipment, you can find it at the many beach supply stores on the Cape. Ocean State Job Lot is well stocked at reasonable prices. I do not supply beach umbrellas, and all patio umbrellas at the property must remain in the table positions in which they have been placed. Upon returning from the beach, you are welcome to use the clothesline rolled up in a dispenser attached to the northeast corner of the sauna house. It pulls out and attaches to a hook on the outside southwest corner of the Jacques Cousteau bedroom. Ask for clothespins. Using the Spa The spa is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. as a general rule. Please do keep in mind that the homeowner closest to the spa is an elderly woman who will make official complaint if she is disturbed at what she considers to be unreasonable hours. In other words, if you remain considerate about noise levels, there should be no problem. Please do shower before getting into the hot tub. Otherwise, sunscreens and other products turn the water cloudy and cause unwanted deposits to collect on the tub walls. If you forgot your bathing suit, there are extras in the white chest outside the kitchen at the bottom of the west stairs. Please wash any suits you use and replace them before your departure. The sauna is a far-infrared model, which means the sauna interior doesn’t heat up. It heats you instead. There are towels in baskets on either side of the sauna. Please use them only for the sauna. Please don't eat in the sauna house. It will attract pests that may be difficult to remove. If you drink anything in the sauna area, please make sure to use plastic drinkware. You are welcome to refill the cold plunge upon your arrival. You can buy ice for it at 7 G’s, the liquor store at the intersection of Route 149 and Route 6A, one mile east of the Manor. I also freeze ice in loaf-pan-sized blocks, and can supply those at the price of a dollar per block. I have installed a screen curtain at the entrance to the sauna house. Its two halves close magnetically at the center. Keeping the bugs out will be a matter of making sure the curtain halves are completely shut when you enter and leave the sauna house. Otherwise, you will be sharing the space with quite a few unwanted guests. The Bursley Manor Septic System The Bursley Manor is on a well and has a septic tank. Please flush ONLY human waste and toilet paper. Other kinds of wipes, tampons, and pads will clog the system - very unpleasant for everyone. There are trash cans in each bathroom where used wipes and sanitary products may be deposited. Internet Network: BursleyManor Password: Bursley18 Garbage Collection at the Manor Garbage on the Cape is sorted into single-stream recycling and trash. The single-stream recycling bins are marked with green stickers that list in white writing the kinds of materials accepted. Regular trash goes out on Tuesday nights/very early Wednesday mornings at the end of the driveway furthest from the house. Recyclables go out on Thursday nights/very early Friday mornings at the same place. As your host, I'll bring the garbage to the curb, but please place it in the appropriate containers before the scheduled collections. That's all I can think of, please let me know if I left anything out. Thank you very much for choosing the Bursley Manor Compound. Have a wonderful time! Please call if you have any questions at all - I'm more than happy to help.
