'The Abbey" - Historic Beach Block Villa
Cape May’s most photographed home, the John B McCreary House (the “Abbey”) built in 1869 for a wealthy Coal baron in the Gothic Revival style influenced by the great medieval churches of Europe is located at the historic district’s heart one block from town and the beach. The home underwent extensive renovations in the spring of 2023, with a new double height ceiling kitchen with a fireplace, new bathrooms, restored floors and a professional décor update to Cape May’s most spectacular home. Located one block from some of the most pristine beaches in the northeast and one block from Cape May's charming, quaint downtown, the Abbey is THE heart of the historic district. Tree lined streets make the immediate area a beautiful spot all year round with spectacular fall foliage in front of the Victorian landscape, the famous candelight house tour which takes place on our block during the winter, and spring showing off our professionally designed garden landscaping. We have space for 10 cars (7 if not stacked), but you won't need them other than to visit the farms or wineries further from town.
