Pawpaw’s Place is waterfront property located on LA Highway 34 between Chatham and Winnfield. Leave your busy life at home. This is the place to go to recharge your batteries, reconnect with family or friends. There are many outdoor opportunities in the area for nature lovers. The boat launch at Caney Lake is just around the corner from our house. Jimmie Davis State Park is a 9 minute drive. If that’s not your thing, we are within a short driving distance to shopping, dining and other entertainment opportunities. The area is rural with good state and local highways and roads. Travel will require a car or truck. However, bicycling and walking to the adjacent marina and boat landing is easy and convenient. This property has been in our family for over 100 years. My grandfather (Pawpaw) built this house himself in the mid 1980’s. He stayed busy into his early 90’s; he enjoyed mowing his own yard, cutting his own fire wood, building deer stands and fighting off beavers and alligators. He loved nature and all it had to offer-duck hunting, deer hunting and, well, just about any kind of hunting. He enjoyed feeding and the birds, squirrels, and deer on his property. His pride and joy was the pond. He loved to watch the generations of his family fish and enjoy his pond. He would wait to feed the fish when the great grandkids were around just to watch their faces light up. If you reeled in a big one he would get the scale so he could weigh it. If it was a ‘good one’ he’d sometimes make you toss it back to grow bigger. Comforts have been added to the house since the 80’s. More recently it has been remodeled but it will always be ‘Pawpaw’s Place’. We are happy to share Pawpaw’s Place with you and yours. Use it, enjoy it, and most of all please take good care of it.
